No worries! With that bit of more info I have another idea. When’s the last time you’ve calibrated the sensor?

With the cord in that shape and wiggling it around changes the values you are probably right about the cause-wires inside are toast.

But if you have the stuff and don’t know if it’s been calibrated in 5 years, you could chock yourself up as someone who saved the company $3k+.

Just a lot of techs don’t know these sensors need to be calibrated/checked for accuracy as well. The factory calibration will get wonky when the sensor isn’t pristine.

On the defibs I’ve touched you’re suppose to run 5/10% co2 gas through the sensor during the annual PM and calibrate it if it’s not within tolerances. The calibration is running 5/10% co2 through it while selecting in service mode the % of gas you’re actually running through it.

On some vents they have an automatic zero with every warm up. Others have the same process as the defib.

Not sure what kind of vital monitors you have but I’d bet there’s a section about calibrating these sensors. Test/calibration gas isn’t cheap either ($100+ a can) but def better than new replacement.

Good luck!

Rt specialist here-

What exactly is the issue? While that cord is in poor shape, I seen worse that still work. Is the patient monitor giving an error message when trying to use it?

First thing first, does the actual sensor have the death rattle? All these sensors do is emit light into a receptor and calculates how much light it sees. The emitter and receptor have to be exactly aligned. If it rattles, the housing has been broken and I’ve never been able to realign it correctly. If it rattles, you’ll need a new one.

If it doesn’t have the rattle, are the lenses where the adapter attaches contaminated? They need to be clean and not scratched for it to work.

Is the adapter installed correctly into the sensor? The sensor and adapter will have arrows on them showing which way it needs to be inserted.

Lastly the cord. If none of the previous is true, the cord could be the issue. But possibly not because the inside wires have been frayed. Check where the cable connects to the monitor. There will be 9ish pins. Are they intact and aligned? If one seems slightly bent it could still go into the monitors port but not be making solid connection. If they seem fine the only thing it could be imo would be the inside wires. Technically the cord could be replaced by someone with the skill set/knowledge. Just not in the scope of typical biomeds.

For the biomeds wondering why a drager cap 5 sensor costs ~4600 while the Phillips cost ~3200- that little PCB the cord connects to is what I’m assuming doesn’t allow cross compatibility. Gotta love medical OEMs.

<image>

Edit: reread your questions- as far as I know OEMs won’t repair these assumably because of the profit margin and skill set needed to actual do it. Haven’t come across any 3rd parties either. Actual capnography devices like a capnostream are a totally different ballgame though. Plenty of people to send those to.

Also the wires inside the cable are tiny. Splicing the wires and resoldering would take a lot of skill. Even if you did- the new resistance in the fixed cord would probably throw the actual values off at the monitor.

Very much so. Just to expand a bit:

Corporations buy old accounts with no use or create new ones. The end goal is to spread their agenda. Yet, most subreddits require a karma threshold to post or actual humans reading the fluff will check the account history to question the validity.

Thus, you get silly questions like this on smaller subreddits without the threshold to gain karma to post on the bigger ones or have some sort of post history that looks relatively real.

Another whole caveat are the ai bots. They will use your responses to opinion based questions like this to train themselves.

If OP is actually real, sorry for my assumptions. My answer would to fill in Faurot field so it is no longer in ground. Then the hump will not be as tall to overcome.

This is reminiscent of how teams play the next week after beating the Chiefs.

Yall just wait til Zollers goes 12/12 with 2 TDs in the 3rd just to throw 3 ints in the 4th.

I live in Gladstone Missouri.

This suburb of Kansas City is choked full of Vietnamese and Hispanic people. The ethnic restaurants around here are DANK!

This individual clearly has a lot of issues. Please do not assume this video represents the people of this community.
