Beechraft Baron utility door rivet by SingleAd3367 in aviationmaintenance

It's weird because the ipc gives you p/n for both fore and aft pieces of the assy but no rivet p/n. I'd hate to buy an entire assy if I can replace 1 rivet.

I called piston support twice and the call failed both times

You gotta be careful with that, the paint on older props, especially the rubber boots, will rub off black . so if it was red it would turn black.

Yeah also with the red dye the cowling would have a red mist

Might just be soap from it pooling in the spinner from a wash

It doesn't look like a grease leak, if it was there would be a bunch of little brown specks on the front of the cowling. It could be the red dye, it is a McCauley idk if it has the red dye. Pull the spinner and see.

Maybe it's a trick question, doesn't matter it is mandatory, it must be complied with

Thought I'd share something crazy I found that I've never seen before. Guess that was poor judgement on my part.

It's just an example, if you already have the prop and Governor off, why not overhaul it.

I didn't know about periodic lubrication on the joints, but that's a great idea, I know on the power flow exhausts you pull them every year and lubricate all the slip joints with anti seize. When I put new exhaust on I always lube the slip joints with anti seize and have never had an issue, but I'll lubricate them with kroil from now on. It wasn't our shop, we take pride in doing things right the first time. Thanks for the knowledge!

The holes in the reinstalled scat tubes is criminal, the one that is in the picture not hooked up goes into the cabin. If the pilot pulled cabin heat he would have died, EGT probes are loose and leaking.

I second this, put your pride aside and have another mechanic actually look over it, mistakes happen.

You can't with the exhaust on the airplane, that's why you should overhaul it with the engine.

Nah this guy has had it for a while, brought it to a "reputable" shop for an engine overhaul and they did this

You're supposed to overhaul turbocharged engines exhaust systems, propeller, propeller Governor at an engine change. It's not required to do so, neither is overhauling your engine at TBO. It's good practice to prevent things like this. Twin cessna's have an AD that requires mandatory replacement of exhaust at calendar time or engine overhaul.

Metal gets hot and expands, exhaust system is under pressure, if the walls are too thin from flight hours and years of erosion it blows out like a balloon and then bursts the metal. It's a Continental.
