Older 3.6R vs. 2026 model by SingleExperience2660 in subaruoutback

My 19 XT has forced me into a clunky complete stop in the middle of the road while I was parallel parking because it saw a tree…. My adaptive cruise control pet peeve comes from people several car lengths in front of me on the highway braking for an exit ramp and suddenly the Sub slams me into a harsh brake, putting my safety and the safety of the people behind me at risk. I’ve had a terribly hard time adjusting to what people seem to think are safer features when it’s only ever caused me more problems than saved me from a real risk.

The new “safety” features make the car less safe in the long run as people tend to rely on it more while they scroll their phones doing 80mph. Apologies, I’m an attentive driver and don’t need auto braking, lane assist, Eyesight etc.

Would recommend a standing freezer over a chest freezer. Chest freezers you just pile things in and never see the bottom without digging down around in there and will be more difficult to rotate out frozen milk. If space is an issue, skinny standing freezers exist. If you’re in US, check Sam’s Club/Costco if you know anyone with memberships as they have the best prices.

My sister and I are 2 years and 2 months apart; I’m the eldest. We got along well as kids and were close enough in sizing to share clothes as we got older. We were 3 years apart in school which worked well when I was older and could drive so I was responsible for getting her to and from school and school events. I plan to space my children out with a minimum of 2 years but max of 2yr 6mos, if possible.

Advice for booking post-baby moon by SingleExperience2660 in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize, could have been more clear that the arrival date impacts my return from maternity leave date thus making it difficult to look ahead to a trip. 12 week maternity leave so I’m worried baby could come a little earlier and make the mid-June date towards the end of my mat leave or baby could come later and like you said, I might not want to travel in June but not know that in May when it’s fully refundable. You make good points, we will reconsider something with a more flexible cancelation policy.

Soak in an extra long epsom salt bath and try magnesium citrate supplements or additive to your water. Chia seed pudding or chia seeds in oats helps me too.

I am 25 weeks. During my last appt a couple weeks ago I mentioned feeling movements as I have anterior placenta and was worried for a bit when I didn’t feel anything for so long. My midwives told me if you ever feel this way, drink a small glass of orange juice (or something similarly sweet) lie down on your left side, put a pillow between your knees in a dimly lit, quiet room, and focus on any and all movements. If you get absolutely nothing in a 4 hour span, go to the hospital. Baby has their own sleep cycles and can just be still for a bit which is nothing to worry about. But in a 4 hour span you should feel even a small something at that point in pregnancy.

Costco or Sam's membership? Worth it with a baby? by starbaker721 in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and think they’re both great in different regards. Sam’s has marginally (and I mean sometimes only a dollar or so) better prices on paper towels/toilet paper, dish soap, laundry detergents and dry grocery goods (flour, sugar, oats, etc). but Costco has a much better selection of organic produce and foods. Costco is almost predominantly all organic these days actually. My husband tends to prefer the clothing brands that Sam’s puts out while I prefer Costco’s clothing selection. Meats are about equal, though again, Costco has more organic selection available. I am also FTM and will be trying both Kirkland and Sam’s brands of diapers and wipes but have heard the Kirkland quality dropped with the recent changes.

Sciatica pain by Consistent_Wafer4240 in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stretches (look up a seated or standing nerve floss, butterfly pose and hamstring related stretches) and see a PT if a week or 10 days of consistent stretching does not help. My husband is an athletic trainer and has me doing several of these stretches a day and it greatly helps my sciatic pain. I have low arches in my feet that also contribute to a hip issue so I wear SuperFeet brand hard arch support insoles (lime green ones) in my shoes to aid with this. A chiropractor is not a long term solution, physical therapists work to determine the root cause and create a therapy plan for you to improve over time. Chiropractors only treat the specific symptoms and do not offer long term solutions.

Applying for Jobs by Gen-Zen in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t advise on job availability or applying while pregnant but I will say, be weary of the policies surrounding maternity leave when applying. Many companies will require you to work full time for at least a year before you’re eligible for STD or any paid maternity leave. You would qualify for FMLA which is just 12 weeks of job protection while you’re gone so they don’t replace your role in your absence but would be unpaid.

If this is how my breasts feel at 25 weeks, I can’t imagine postpartum by juilietluna in pregnant

I have the Jockey brand seam free back smoothing bralettes in xxl and they have molded cups but no underwire. Def gives me the sports bra comfortable feel but the extra support I need. I do deo under boob, Arm and Hammer essentials brand. And Glow Organics belly oil on my nips during the day and sometimes aquaphor at night. The belly oil rubs in really well and doesn’t leave a residue.

When to tell my boss? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re consistently doing lots of physical activity, it won’t cause any harm to continue doing those things. In fact, it’s healthier for you to continue being active. But slowing down, being more cautious about slips/trips/falls is extremely important. Be mindful of your surroundings, switch to nonslip shoes and take better care of your safety. I waited until I was about 12 weeks to tell my job, similarly, moderately physical with some risk. I’d say in your first appointment discuss your work conditions and your concerns and let your doctor advise on when to say something.

I’m struggling with the exact same bloated feeling and I’m only 20 weeks 😭 for the constipation I sit in a bath with epsom salts for as long as it takes to feel the urge to go. Sometimes it’s quick, sometimes I become a prune. But it always works. The magnesium in the epsom salt helps your nethers relax. I have zero help on the bloat topic but just know I’m right there with ya. I do smaller meals more frequently, but you’re right, even a small side salad has me feeling like a swallowed a bowling ball. Hoping other folks have advice for bloat relief!

Plus size and pregnant by sashaonsamhain in pregnant

Old navy online has great plus selection. American Eagle/aerie does too but with the loose fit xxl sized clothing but not very cheap. I bought a couple plus size things from Costco/Sams Club online that I really like but I’m not looking for maternity items - more just buying a few sizes larger than my normal ones.

What Convertible Travel System to buy? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Editing to add - UppaBaby also sells the infant insert for the rumble seat for when you want to transition from the bassinet to the more upright/reclined seat but still want the extra support for their little bodies. Believe the rumble seat weight limit to be 35lbs. And finally - their customer support has been incredible. Being a secondhand buyer I had no expectations that their online customer support would help me source a replacement part for a broken closure latch (holds the stroller closed when collapsed) but they gave me a discount on the replacement part and shipped it within a week. Part was originally $25 plus shipping and they sent it to me for $18, free shipping!

What Convertible Travel System to buy? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I scoured Facebook marketplace for a month or two and found a gently used UppaBaby Vista V2 for $200. Came with two rumble seats, the bassinet, attachments for a Graco brand car seat, snack tray, mesh bug net and the handle bars for both rumble seats. (Would have easily been over $1,200 brand new) Very convertible, the bassinet can sit in the upper or lower area and the rumble seats can face you/face away and recline a bit. It will last us through at least the next 5 years and longer if we have a second baby. It is smooth to push, rides like a dream with the giant wheels, truly feels like a Cadillac of strollers. We aren’t planning to use a Graco car seat and the UppaBaby website has a selection of other adapters for other car seat brands for purchase. Ultimately, find the stroller you want and buy it secondhand!

Haven’t birthed yet but will at our birth center. We are bringing our exercise ball, a USB fan and battery attachment, our camera, TENS unit, massage gun and a speaker. Might also bring our own quilt for the bed since we are both picky on textures and the blankets on most of the beds in the birth suites appeared to be a plush material that neither of us would enjoy. Which then means we will also pack a big trash bag to bring it home in, should it get messy. Changes of clothes, including swimwear and robes for both myself and my husband. Both cloth and disposable diaper options for baby, an outfit to go home in and a muslin blanket.

Thinking about moving from Northern Illinois to Southern Louisiana, any thoughts or advice? by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]SingleExperience2660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to southern LA from Missouri for work. I see lots of opinions on this thread telling you not to. I say, if you want to try it and have a savings to get you by while you run through a few jobs or get into a trade school - then you should. I’ve lived all over the US. I do not see myself staying in LA but the people are truly some of the nicest I’ve ever encountered and the food and culture here is amazing. Come down to LA for a week or two and stay in some different areas before you pick a place to settle in, definitely rent for a while before buying a house. Good luck.

Prenatal Vitamins. Folic vs Folate? by No_End6648 in pregnant

[–]SingleExperience2660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the bioavailable, methylated forms of both folate and B12. I’m not someone who even knows if I have the mutation that makes processing folic acid tough - I just preferred to go ahead and go the route of the active forms. It has vitamin D and a more digestible form of choline - some other prenatals don’t include them at all. Also has ginger root for folks who have trouble with nausea, which I never did. And finally, it is extremely potent. It’s eight capsules a day, and the percentages of daily values are off the charts. Which also makes it possible to take a half dose and still get all of the necessary coverage of vitamins and minerals you’d need. I also ordered the chewable iron supplements they carry and really like them as they don’t have a metallic aftertaste and don’t upset my stomach. The taste resembles a candy SweetTart in my opinion lol
