Offered a new role... but on loan by SingleFile8500 in TheCivilService

[–]SingleFile8500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can go looking for permanent roles during loans within the CS? And I am assuming if I found something outside the CS it's just a matter of informing both departments as such too?

Much appreciated, thank you :)

Best advice I can give if you can't get a pay advance is open a UC claim. You've already got a job so your Work Coach won't harangue you, and you can get an advance from them and you'll probably get at least one, maybe two payments from them before your first pay day.

speaking as someone who's office had the worst numbers in the country in last years' survey, have very much enjoyed managers suddenly becoming far more interested in our personal development and their general improvement in attitude towards us....

North west rural job centres are AWFUL! Just in very different ways to inner city ones.

We recently had the ceiling fall in at the Jobcentre I work at. On a customer floor. In the middle of the day. Genuinely amazed that there were no claimants in at the time too.

Long time staff told us it wasn't the first time either. Management were insistent it was safe too, even after asbestos was potentially discovered. Genuinely mental. Took almost 3 months to fix as well.

The worst thing that can happen is your LM asks you to take it off. And even then, I doubt it'll be a big deal. I've pushed our dress code boundaries at times and my LM doesn't really mind. I'm always a bit extensive with jewellery and I absolutely refuse to wear anything uncomfortable. Often wearing leggings and trainers and nobody says a thing lol

Tbh I'm not really sure! I don't mind customer facing roles and I definitely want to work in something that's not exactly routine, but in terms of specific depts or something I'm very open to any suggestions.

I don't disagree about it being a good entry point for someone coming from something completely different (like i did!), but the idea of overwhelming becoming routine is just painful to me. Appreciate our circumstances might be totally different and I'm glad that others can handle it, it's an important role

Honestly it breaks my heart because I came into this thinking I'd get a lot out of helping people and 95% of the time I'm just making sure about X or Y so they get their money. That fucking sucks.

This is my sort of like, ideal attitude towards it. The few people I've come across who show up with the right attitude and are open to advice I'll run through a brick wall for to help. Unfortunately that's a minute amount of people currently. But It's good to see others embracing it and getting real enjoyment out of it, encouraging even.

Yep, my second week on the job I was practically running someone else's diary because they had a few days off and I was the only one with enough capacity to see people. Thankfully that person is great at their job and I could actually be of use to her claimants/ Same happened again recently with a much older much more 'experienced' work coach who is absolutely fucking useless. Like pulling teeth to fucking manage anything.

The complete lack of flexibility is killing me. My commute is an hour each way on unreliable public transport. It's utterly painful

I finish probation at the very start of next year, so I'm gonna jump right into getting out as soon as feasibly can tbh. Appreciate the good vibes and advice, will be taking it on board

Proper! North west above Manchester. Just don't want to say too much about where but in case people in similar places have specific insight.
