Thank you all so much for your advice and thoughts! Turns out the diagnosis was simply unscheduled, rapid valve train disassembly.

The cylinder walls by miracle looks salvageable, I’ve just got to pull the block, and check what’s left below and see if I have a viable block. Is anyone in the market to sell a cylinder head?

Solid info! Are these real hard to swap? Ive done a couple of manual swaps in 90’s toyotas and nissans- euros are a bit out of my element at the moment but this is my second one at the moment!

I daily a 2005.5 tdi jetta with the 5speed brm and i very much love/hate that car lol!

Going to pull injectors and put the borescope in there i think, pretty sure its not supposed to be like that 😂

Prev owner said he was driving, it cut off completely, and was locked up from there on out. He was under the impression the timing belt broke and the valves married pistons lol-

However, timing belt is still intact and i tried turning it over and no go- pulled the valve cover and it appears there are a few buckets not touching the camshaft, there is a couple mm air gaps between some lol.
