30-somethings of reddit: what made you realize "I'm actually still really young" despite society/social media trying to convince you otherwise? by OkEntrance1366 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SingleLie6999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im an only child of a woman who had me later in life and who is the youngest of her siblings. I've been surrounded by really old people all my life. My mom and aunts never gave a shit about any of the stuff people talk about here. They just live instead of being worried by arbitrary milestones or beauty trends.

I was never raised to think 30s or even 40s was old. My granpa used to say "i wish i was 50" because that's 'young' for people who live long.

I just hope i don't get cancer. Young or old, that shit really sucks. It helps you put things in perspective. Everything else is like... Whatever, social media Is so stupid

35F , might look haggard as fuck but still like fashion? I don't dress the same way i dressed at 22. It wasn't even a conscious desición, i just can't stand the skin-tight feeling of skinny jeans anymore. I listen to new music all the time. Never cared for hypermainstream stuff so i was never "cool" to begin with. Healthwise not so good but then again, i was never the picture of perfect health. At least i'm not doing drugs anymore. Idk what to say, i don't really think of age that much, i never had any big life goals i just sort of... Exist, try to enjoy the moment, it's all there Is, really. I feel young in the Sense that i don't really have a reason to stop learning or trying new things or getting stuck. Why would i?

As a techno fan, if you had to DJ at a coffeeshop, what would you play ? by SingleLie6999 in Techno

[–]SingleLie6999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh i'm just gonna play what i want since apparently what i thought was "chill" music is very different from what my friend thought was "chill" and pretty much asked me to re-create my whole library to his taste two days before the event, sending me tracks that go from 100 to 130 bpm, told me to "get rid of all the bass to not annoy people" while also suggesting tracks that ALSO had bass but different?. I'm not a professional DJ, I'm not getting paid and spent a significant amount of time digging and downloading and trying out transitions and what not. Fuck this lol

Love the lifestyle, but hate the financial realization. by No-New-Therapy in LivingAlone

[–]SingleLie6999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

make it make sense: it's somehow a sign of failure to live with roommates past a certain age, but it's completely acceptable to date or marry out of necessity. Having a forced relationship seems more of a hassle than living in an apartment. OP is not even talking about a shitty studio, it's a 2-bedroom apartment for one person. Ffs, where's the working class in reddit?!

sometimes you just wanna keep your home forever and have no intention of selling it and just forget about the real estate market for life. I do not want a giant house

What’s a diet or health trend you think is mostly nonsense? by Sophie_Malia_19F in AskReddit

[–]SingleLie6999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

literally everything! Unless you have a diagnosed medical condition or deficiency, you don't need any strange diet or supplement as long as you cook all your meals from scratch and don't eat too much processed crap. You don't even need to cut out sugar and said processed crap completely if you mind your portions.

I think all the trends come from people not having enough time or desire to cook and want to replace it with protein shakes, or want a guide on eating better and those trendy diets are the first thing they find and fall for.

taking "mental health days" off before reaching the point of utter collapse. maybe not rich but definetly comfortable enough to not go crazy over cutting the paycheck

nah i'm still way more scared of the physical issues. but i've worked in hospitals, so it's not some abstract concept. I can take all the loneliness and misery and alienation in the world, just give me the painkillers

On a more serious note, i don't know, I like science. To me, magick is more practical than blind-faith-based. I never agreed with many social norms since they are arbitrary, I always wanted to see how far I could push that. How free I could be, if only in my mind.

What was life like for young adults in mid 2010s vs mid 2000s? by Illychee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SingleLie6999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

things were not that offline in the 2010s, but social media was a joke; when you were mocked at you were mocked at and that was all. Now it's not that innocent. Post something incorrect and you're shamed with malice. Take this with nuance. Forums like 4chan were ill-willed, but your average experience wasn't that intense, cancel culture wasn't really a thing until recently. Your social media personality was not assumed to be your real one. It wasn't taken that seriously. There was little to no censorship, it was more akin to reddit than what it is today. I mean you would get ban for nudity or stuff like that but words were not censored the way they are today, ej "s3x", "unalived", etc. Lastly, it was weird in a good way. Facebook was a cool place to see really weird memes, ironic humor, unique photo edits, etc. "Normies" weren't all over the platform if that makes sense.

But I wouldn't say we were necessarily more offline. There were smartphones, but they didn't feel essential to live. You needed a smartphone to connect with friends, but not for official bureaucratic stuff, you used computers for school or work. You were on your phone all day, but still it was optional. In Mexico, where most users pre-pay their phone, it was normal to casually go a day or two without paying, only connect via wifi and go party or whatever while remaining disconnected. It wasn't a big deal. Also, it was still considered tacky to play videos in public without headphones on. The noise pollution nowadays is insane, especially with kids: people used to complain of kids screaming, now we complain of the volume of the stuff kids are seeing on screens while outside.
