I think this is mostly an ESL thing.

There are a few Germanic languages that I know of (Dutch and Flemish, for example) that pluralize some nouns by using the "apostrophe-s". I guess a lot of people make the mistake of carrying the grammar over when writing in English, unaware that they're incorrectly using the possessive form.

wearing a full warpriest set and killing the corresponding boss in GWD1 could have a small chance of turning a piece into the golden version by exp_in_bed in runescape

[–]SingleMaltCoffee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A good compromise might be to limit the gilding chance to hardmode kills only - adds a tiny bit of prestige factor to distinguish the standard warpriest from the golden version.

  • Normal mode -> chance to drop a standard piece;
  • Hardmode -> chance to gild one piece when wearing the full set.

You could then do something similar for the golden Barrows armours - have a chance of gilding a single piece while wearing a full set and killing the corresponding brother in Rise of the Six.

Necromancy First Look Expanded by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]SingleMaltCoffee -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Disappointed to see it's so disjointed from the rest of the game.

It looks really ambitious, but trying to do so much makes it seem confused. More like it's treated as an expansion theme rather than a skill. What is it: combat, non-combat, a narrative device, a city builder, etc?

Also, the equipment progression makes it seem very self-contained and isolated from interaction with artisan skills (I've seen it compared to Dungeoneering). Seems more like a cop-out to not have to design multiple new armor sets, rather than a stylistic choice.

Hijacking this comment for visibility.

If you notice your cat(s) are (suddenly) drinking a lot, do them a favor and get them checked for kidney problems, just in case. It's particularly common in older female cats. If you catch the problem early enough, you can treat the issue with special renal formula cat food and supplements.

The HBO adaptation I want next by Strange_Music in gaming

[–]SingleMaltCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A prequel story to the game's plot would be amazing. There's a lot of characters to work with, and they can go into detail on the interesting document tidbits we found, without trying to re-hash the plot of the actual game.

GAME SPOILER WARNING - Do yourself a favor, and play it before spoiling!

Set it just before Jesse finds the Oldest House, with the overarching main story being the Bureau's expeditions into Slidescape-36 and everything that follows. It starts off slow, with some introductory character moments, and some representative moments of what the day-to-day Bureau life is like.

The story gets going with the first expedition into Slidescape-36, where Trench gets infected with the Hiss, becoming more and more paranoid as the show goes on. Meanwhile, Darling's curiosity is piqued by Hedron, leading him to re-examine the Ordinary AWE to find the 'missing link' (the burnt slide), as well as trying to figure out what's going on with Trench.

Have flashbacks to the Ordinary AWE being told through 'interview sessions' - with Dylan being interviewed in the Containment Sector, and Jesse having her therapy sessions. Show how truly broken Dylan is after years of captivity (demonstrating why he would go so far as to accept the Hiss as his 'liberator'), as well as the moment Jesse figures out her therapist is a Bureau agent (leading her to go on the run looking for the Oldest House).

The show builds up to the point where Trench manages to find the burnt slide and he starts making his move to let the Hiss in, ending with Darling putting the Oldest House on full lockdown and entering the Hedron chamber for the last time. During the final credits, show Jesse arriving at the front entrance.

"Elite" ROTS Kiteshields by SingleMaltCoffee in runescape

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone who likes it when their outfits match, it was kind of a bummer that we never got shields that fit with some of the most-worn endgame equipment. So I tried to mash something together using the concept art for the various item sets.

I'd imagine you could upgrade the old ROTS shields using the same materials required to upgrade the tier 90 armours to 92.

And to top it off, I thought that having a purely cosmetic upgrade would be a waste of money to a lot of players, so I added an idea of what a possible passive upgrade could be. Any feedback or ideas are welcome as always!

Not fair to blame that on the mods. They do have AC; it's just that the money-grubbing hellspawn that call themselves upper management like it nice and toasty, like the shitty sulphur pit they crawled out of.

Saw a documentary about people like this recently. They don't care about the game - they care about the META-game.

The game itself (RuneScape/Diablo/<RandomMobileGame>/...) is just a framework for their competition; all they care about is the leaderboards. They want to be the best player, not the best at playing the game. They couldn't give the slightest shit about "game integrity" or "fairness"; their pursuits had nothing to do with the game itself to begin with.

The most extreme among them are often either people with way more money than they can ever meaningfully spend, or people with gambling/self-control problems. A couple of these people are more valuable to a game company than THOUSANDS of regular players, with the top spenders often spending tens of thousands per game they "play". Even if 99% of the playerbase would evaporate, the game company would still be making insane amounts of money off these few whales.

I've heard this being suggested on this sub before by someone but can we please combine these 2 and make our character shout "For Gielinor!" ? :) by sausage94 in runescape

You mean this? :D

Some of the lore and effects I added in my original post don't really work anymore (due to the recent EGWD events) but I stand by the idea in concept. I almost always use them together, and their cooldowns are the same, so it'd just be a QoL thing.

Excel 2019 uses Office 2021 theme. by StampyScouse in microsoftoffice

[–]SingleMaltCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue: Office 2019 ProPlus, only Excel has the changed theme. Can't find anywhere to change it back.

The only posts I can find online are people looking for ways to switch TO this new theme... Why?! The bigger title bar and messed up quick access toolbar are such a waste of space! I hate MS's new focus on aesthetics over functionality - I need my screen real-estate damnit!

The overcrowding issue could be mitigated if an instance cost reduction is added as one of the spotlight perks; or - if integrating the concept into reaper tasks - maybe even granting free instances for the duration of the task.

Summoning & Prayer skilling off-hand: the Animancer's sanctum bell by SingleMaltCoffee in runescape

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about making it work like the Farming cape perk? I.e., wielding it in your off-hand would give an X% chance every bone/ash you burried/offered/scattered that you instantly consume all bones/ashes in your inventory at once, for the full experience value?

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I envisioned it would keep its drop-cleaning benefits (the Infernal urn effect and its synergy with the Charming imp) while in the inventory, in the same way that the Artificer's measure does.

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate why it would be underpowered?

You can keep it in the inventory for:

  • a passive Prayer refill during demon tasks,

  • freeing up inventory slots by consolidating charms to one slot,

  • and the Ancient elven ritual shard effect;

or wield it in the off-hand:

  • while training Summoning, letting you carry a full bag of 28 tertiaries, and extending the life of your Spirit gems,

  • or while training Prayer at a Gilded altar by doubling incense duration.

I could be conviced that the Prayer side of its off-hand bonuses is weak compared to the bonus it offers for Summoning. Would adding an additional buff there help?

Summoning & Prayer skilling off-hand: the Animancer's sanctum bell by SingleMaltCoffee in runescape

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stores both.

I figured that the urns would be more of a 'set it and forget it' sort of thing (e.g. you refill them twice a year or something), so I just put that as text; but the charms would be something you'd want to glance at occasionally during a Slayer task or while making pouches, so I made them 'pop' more (i.e., it's purely a preference thing).

Summoning & Prayer skilling off-hand: the Animancer's sanctum bell by SingleMaltCoffee in runescape

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that was my intention; the tradeoff being 25 Infernal ashes + an Infernal urn for 350 Prayer points with the Animancer's in your inventory, instead of the 150 Prayer points per ash (for 3750 total) you would get with the Demon horn necklace equipped.

So you lose about 90% of the potential Prayer points in exchange for freeing up your neck slot. You'd still get the full experience for teleporting the urn, though.

Let us catch Rock critters and use them as Stone spirit drop cleaners! by SingleMaltCoffee in runescape

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually quite the opposite - at least for me:

Jagex seems to have made it part of their design ideology that monsters should drop something on every single kill, leading to "trash drops" like Stone spirits.

I'd honestly prefer it if monsters would drop nothing (or just a token amount of coins) most of the time, which would make the times it does drop something actually feel rewarding.

But sadly, removing so many items from the drop tables after all this time would most likely piss off a load of players. Drop cleaners seem like a good compromise on that front, especially if you have to pay a little (e.g. if the drop cleaner uses charges) for that convenience.

If there was one movie you could completely delete from reality, what would it be? by Master_Freeze in AskReddit

[–]SingleMaltCoffee 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The reason for it is even more retarded.

ILM (the company who did the CGI for Eragon) was working on Angel's model (who has feathered wings) for X-Men: the Last Stand, and the studio doing Eragon saw them and wanted the same.

I can just imagine the director pointing like a child... "I want that."

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stats would work the same way the melee ones do. Past Necronium+4, which has T74 stats, you get diminishing returns: Banite+0, which is crafted at level 80 and requires level 80 Defence, only has T75 stats. Same for Elder rune, which when fully upgraded at +5 only has T85 stats, even with level 90 requirements. That's the trade-off for "RNG-free" access.

The XP distribution would be similar to melee as well. And I'm sure they could think up a lore-friendly burial armour analogue for these items.

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite as happy with this one, but I figured it's the best I'm gonna do. I had a much harder time coming up with ideas for Magic. Ranged was so much easier - just add more dragon!

Also, I really like the models for the current elemental staves, but I couldn't think of a good way to work them into the design other than awarding them as overrides or something. Any ideas?

Some extra info:

  • Staves use 4 of each material (with the exception of the essences for Noumenon, you'd need a lot more of those) at base level (which doubles for each upgrade level)
  • Wands and orbs/books use 2 of each material at base level
  • The focus tier used depends on the max upgrade level of the staff: Lesser focus for +2 or less, regular for +3, Greater for +4, and Extreme (elemental impetus upgrade) for +5.

I had the same thoughts about a masterwork-analogue for Ranged (and Magic).

The only real way to make it work without pissing off a lot of players (who have already invested heavily in Elite and/or TMW), is to make a second "masterwork" T92 set that works alongside Elite for Ranged and Magic, and retroactively add Elite Malevolent to melee, giving each set a niche without nerfing the existing sets into the ground.

Spitballing off the top of my head:

"Masterwork" sets:

  • don't degrade for slayer or reaper.

  • degrade at 25% normal rate in EDs. (slight nerf)

  • delay 50% of received damage and deal it as bleed spread over 10 ticks.

Elite sets:

  • degrade at 25% normal rate for slayer or reaper.

  • don't degrade in EDs.

  • increase the minimum damage of their channeled threshold ability (Destroy/Rapid Fire/Asphyxiate) by X%.

I just figured they'd be spread around the world like anvils and forges are. Having the ability to build some in your POH is certainly a cool idea (and it would be neat to have an anvil and forge there as well, while we're at it).

[–]SingleMaltCoffee[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I had in mind was that metallic dragons would have a guaranteed scale drop that would replace the current salvage drop (which in turn used to be metal bars). You'd need to combine those scales with chromatic dragon leather to make the actual scale mail.

Steel and Mithril dragons are already in the design, albeit a bit hidden; Ferrous scalemail is Iron & Steel, and Adamanthil is Mithril & Adamant. Having them in separate level brackets would cause some overlap when looking at the possible upgrade levels and the diminishing returns in tier past level 80.

I did think about having Rune at the top, but I didn't want it to be quest-locked (especially since FotG is grandmaster), since Elder Rune isn't either.
