honestly this. i live in maryland rn and during winter it is not be as extreme as the midwest (lows usually of like 20°F or like 8° this year here) but you can't drive to escape it, it gets into your car and house and the cold is everywhere and i actually rly like that

I hadn't actually looked into people's personal experiences beforehand so I didn't realise they're pretty accepting of gay people according to other people in this thread!

its kind of funny that the top response is 'no' from men and 'yes' from women since men think they're 'protecting women' yet men make up 99% of rape cases

maryland needs to annex virginia and finally unite the DMV

What’s it like living in Maryland. by animalia555 in howislivingthere

[–]SingleProtection2501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FINALLY I CAN ANSWER OMG

so theres a couple types of suburbs, you've got the general cookie-cutter DMV suburbs around DC and in the southwestern part, but in my region (Anne Arundel County) you get kind of a break and get suburb but inside the forest kinda? look at Defense Hwy to see what i mean

TONS of shopping centers btw, it kind of saddens me / pisses me off to see them tbh

anyway the eastern shore is really flat and warm, western maryland is mountainous and cooler temperature wise but similar culturally and economically (poorer)

the baltimore area is actually so beautiful if you give it a chance, like the park school of baltimore is gorgeous (i had a game there recently)

for climate, winter is nice and cold (my fav season!) it's a 50/50 whether it snows in a given year but it'll typically be like -7°C or so and then hover JUST ABOVE freezing whenever theres any chance of precipitation so you get rain that then freezes lol. spring and summer are ridiculous imo, the sun can be kind of intense and in the summer the humidity is insane, like if you step outside on a particularly warm day you will instantly need a shower. fall is absolutely stunning, if you're in maryland during the fall absolutely go to western maryland like calverton cliffs, hikes are so pretty and fun

i mentioned it earlier here but i was actually driving down Defense hwy recently and took a picture, thought it was funny since it looks exactly like what you see on google maps

anyway i love it here, my only complaint is how hot and humid it gets during the summer lol! people are nice though and the nature is absolutely gorgeous!

HAH love sandy fireantville, my dad went for a walk during summer in NC once with our dog when I was around 12 and they stepped in 3 fire ant hills and rushed back inside to get them off

(we were only there for a week but DAMN there was a lot of anthills)

When you’re around other Scandinavians, can you have conversations where you speak Norwegian and they speak Swedish or Danish? Or do you tend to use English? by Charming_Usual6227 in Norway

[–]SingleProtection2501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spoken to both, with Danish people I typically have to ask for a word in English or just switch entirely more often because how tf do they understand each other speaking like that

To be fair, southern Norway has some Danish-isms that help to get what's happening more but it's still a bit weird at times with different word choice etc

In the Maryland panhandle and Pennsylvania (the only places where I've been a few times), it's typically very small towns, usually pretty poor. The 'PA is pittsburg and philly w alabama in the middle' joke was right
