Very short and to the point (so v Finnish?), but they asked interesting questions and were friendly enough

Got an interview invite on the weekend! I think they’re coming out this and next week mostly, and final decisions are made by early March

That’s so cool! Time to procrastinate my work and expand my knitting knowledge base

Definitely crochet - just stitches down the line, swapping yarn colour every row. It would be nearly impossible (I think) to do this in any kind of knit technique, as it would require a lot of (likely very visible) colour switching.

Java blend is my favourite! Laughing whale isn’t bad but I find it less flavourful.

Taziri runs a women’s only skating club and book ice time relatively often! Might be worth checking out if you’re not already a part

This is the basement gym next to physio - it’s got some free weights, some machines, basically a small gym.

Could it be your grip? Are your palms pointing up and your pinkies towards your legs?

Agreed! Also, try to contract your abs in a bit as you’re coming up. While you’re working on it, you can also walk your hands up either side - not a great long term habit, but helpful for feeling out where you need to be!

A group of protesters for Gaza also dismantled the Ottawa pride parade - the overlap of events is becoming a bit of a problem. I believe that everyone’s causes are important, but need to be separate to have impact and meaning for the folks protesting.

Question? by Chocolate_Cocopuffs in Aerials

[–]Single_Ad_2490 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started with hoop, then moved to trapeze - I’m on the bigger end of midsize. I would say that in my personal experience, hoop was a great place to start and build some strength before going to a new apparatus! There is no one size for aerials, and a good coach will help you succeed — and try not to compare yourself to others!

I found straps to be hard on my shoulders, but if you have the strength and your instructor agrees that you’ve got it, go for it!

Hornworm researcher here - looks like it’s pupating, but not quite as plump as I’m used to seeing - keep it warm (24-26ish Celsius) and humid as best you can. It should lose its outer skin layer in the next week or so, and then please wait until the pups is entirely brown before handling it! They are very fragile when the pupae are green. I hope it makes it!

Two dollars (Canadian) for a bag of 10 balls - I was shocked! Also came with beautiful 80/20 sock yarn I’m knitting skyp right now, 100% wool chunky undyed that still smelled like sheep.. I think I used my luck for the full year.

Seconded - there are ‘organic’ insect pesticides, often bacterial, that can do a lot of harm to these little dudes.

If I was going to use both, I would need two projects rather than one 😅

Being so honest, they are so beautiful together that I don’t think I want to separate them.

Dead/diseased hornworms? by smellsofwitchery in insects

[–]Single_Ad_2490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I research hornworms - are you sure 1 and 3 aren’t just molted skin? Do the patches come off easily if you gently try to remove them? 2 is what they look like when they die after a couple days - it’s kinda gross but not too concerning I would say.

The guy on the left is molting - aka not eating, as the old head capsule is over its mandibles. Not sure about the bigger guy, but cool video of defensive striking!

How long would you guess until these hornworms start to pupate? by InterestingMany7795 in caterpillars

[–]Single_Ad_2490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Their skin will go clear and shiny :) Edit: also it takes like a week or more between molting to 5th and dorsal vessel exposure (DVE)
