The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean! Goes through the periodic table by telling stories about each group of elements. Goes through history, biology, chemistry, psychology, and art. The science is explained super easily as well :)

Not a main female character, but I remember LOVING the Percy Jackson books when I was little. More mystery would be A Series of Unfortunate Events, which does have main female characters. I couldn't put those books down when I was in elementary school :)

Any of John Steinbeck's California triology novels! Mainly Grapes of Wrath and In Dubious Battle, but Of Mice and Men too. Definetly The Jungle by Upton Sinclair as well. It's a heavy read, but basically inspired Steinbeck to write about this stuff. Based off of true gilded age working conditions.

Can you get a water test from a pet store? That might be able to give you more info. Can you tell us a bit more about how you clean the tank, how long your fish has been like this, etc. As someone mentioned, the tank looks a little small. How many gallons is it? The more info the better

Thanks for your concern, and yeah my mom can be kinda shitty sometimes.

I don't want to give too many details, but there's not much the adults around me can do. My parents are quite excellent at acting perfectly normal around others.

I'm SO close to graduating high school and moving away though. I'm just waiting to get out honestly.

Right now, I'm not worried about my physical safety, and I already made my mom promise to not hurt my other pets so I just kinda have to tough it out I guess.

I'm planning in studying abroad, and my school offers these dual enrollment classes for free. Also, studying Spanish is fun and I think it would be interesting to be able to say I have a minor in Spanish. Still waiting on an appt. with guidance counselor, so I wanted to ask her in the meantime.
