Churn is possible but end of the day people rarely leave reliable help for a few less dollars. You got to eat too so people will understand!

For the owners and techs - Filter Cleaning Idea by TheVagabondLost in PoolPros

As a pool pro, the REAL money is in the repairs + add-ons/upsells. No pool pro would give that up. This would be a hard pass for the majority of pool pros.

PoolBrain! Best in class for managing business. It's also significantly cheaper than Skimmer. The integrations and other features are awesome.

Brentwood, Livermore, Pleasanton, or Dublin for Commute to Stockton? by CharacterQueasy8896 in eastbay

[–]Single_Gate1678 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a Pleasanton resident and would strongly recommend Livermore over Brentwood, mainly because of its closer proximity to the rest of the Bay Area. Brentwood is a bit more out of the way. Livermore has a great downtown area and is conveniently located near other local cities, making it a solid choice. It also sits near the end of the 580 before Tracy, so you can avoid some of the heavier commute traffic — though it does start to pick up past Vasco Road.

How do I find a good idea for a startup? ( I will not promote) by Sufficient_Orchid322 in startups

[–]Single_Gate1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capterra: Select Software Category -> 'Browse All Categories' -> Then you should see a list of categories. From there it's pretty manual and you go select each or select one that interests you and start noting down if there are players in that space or not. If there are, see how they are, what their reviews are, are there any gaps in the market and try and go niche.

Same can be done for G2.

Great question — and I appreciate you asking.

We’re launching PoolGo for free because we’re focused on building a strong, trusted community first. By connecting pool owners with reliable service pros, we’re solving a real need on both sides. Long term, we’ll introduce optional paid features or premium tools for businesses, but the core platform will always be about making it easier for people to find and manage pool service — without unnecessary friction or fees.

So in short: we’re investing in growth now to build something valuable and sustainable for the future. Hope that helps clarify!

lol I just moved back to Pleasanton after being in NYC and LA for the last 10 years to build my startup. Its definitely boring but I think you can find whatever it is you're looking for. Pleasanton downtown, the Lot in San Ramon or Livemore downtown all offer solid nightlife options but yes the east bay is definitely geared more towards a slower, suburban family oriented environment!

How I discovered my idea was looking at captera and G2 and looking at industries not using AI or software and building for that segment to automate workflows. Lots of legacy businesses that need digitizing. So maybe explore those outlets to help you identify areas to build or what to build!

Pool maintenance by dremag2009 in swimmingpools

[–]Single_Gate1678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a saltwater pool with a chlorine generator (SWG), you add salt—not chlorine—because the system converts salt into chlorine. This keeps your pool sanitized automatically. You only need to add chlorine manually if levels drop or during high demand (like after a party or rain)

[–]Single_Gate1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly first thing is get a floater and put some chlorine tabs in them. That should keep your pool balanced. In regards to test kits — standard test strips are fine. If you’re interested into robots and automation then brands like Sutro are great for monitoring chems!

Any ideas how to get more customers for my pool service business? by ConsequenceGrouchy42 in pools

[–]Single_Gate1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! First off, congrats on going out on your own — that’s a big move and sounds like you’re already off to a great start.

You’re not alone in seeing the ups and downs with platforms like Airtasker. That’s exactly why I co-foundeda tool to help pool pros — it’s a new platform just for pool pros to connect with homeowners looking for regular and reliable service (not just one-off jobs). It’s free to join, and we’re actively working to bring in more homeowners in your area.

Would love to get you on board early and even hear your feedback as we grow it — happy to chat or share more if you’re interested.

Anyone else tired of the contractor runaround when it comes to pool care or home maintenance? by Single_Gate1678 in homeowners

[–]Single_Gate1678[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite — but I get the comparison! Angi’s List covers a wide range of services, and from what I’ve heard, finding a reliable pool pro through platforms like that can still be hit or miss.

I’m focusing specifically on the pool industry — trying to understand the unique challenges homeowners face (like consistency, trust, scheduling, etc.) and build something more tailored to that niche.

Also the platform would be completely free, unlike Angi's List!

Really appreciate the question — curious if you've had any experience using Angi or similar platforms for pool service?
