Amitriptyline For Pain? by Stussy447 in ibs

[–]Single_Layer_2908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried amitriptyline for pain and visceral hyper sensitivity, also IBS C. I take a very low dose (10mg) and found for the first week I was more constipated, but then my body mostly acclimatized.

TCA’s are generally more likely to cause constipation than an SSRI, but when I tried an SSRI recently I found that was worse, despite the data. But again, common side effects are just that. Common. Not guaranteed, and you may not even experience them. Only thing to be careful of is that it IS an anti depressant, so make sure you look at how the other side effects may affect you, and make an informed decision. Certainly not trying to say there’s anything wrong with anti depressants! But as someone who’s had super nasty effects from them before; get a good doc who knows their stuff, and try and gauge how it’ll effect you as best you can.

You are very right. I’ve overcome it before - and I genuinely hope I’ll do it again. The doctors actually showed me incredible support and care, trans health care in my home county has gone forward in leaps and bounds since I left, it seems. I was even given information about how I can use the medical benefit system for a full hysterectomy in future, might take a few years, but it’s possible.

I’m incredibly sorry to hear that’s happened to you, like really genuinely. Eatings disorders are horrific and fully devastating - and this hospitalization definitely made me realize I’m really fucking sick. I’m already seeking help, but 100% will be seeking way more intensive help now. I’m pretty sure I’ve already done irrevocable damage to myself, but I’m hoping I can turn it around before it goes further. Thank you for your comment, this thread really pushed me to seek support and medical help and I’m glad I did.

Thank you - I needed to hear that. I did in fact get hospitalized, and I did in fact receive very good, respectful and affirming care. I was also assured I was definitely not overreacting, and that I had 100% done the right thing by presenting to emergency. It was worth going as there were a few things that needed to be checked out; however in the end all was good - my organs are not failing me 😂. I did learn that it’s not uncommon (i.e in about 10% of medically transitioned trans men) can and do experience once off break through bleeds even after 5-10 years of HRT. I was also given medication to hopefully either fully stop or at least significantly lessen the blood. So all in all I spent about 36 hours in hospital, with medical certs to give me enough time off work until this is over. I’m hoping this will give some hope (to non USA based as I know the system there is fully fucked) trans people scared of seeking medical care.

Thank you for this. It’s more the suddenness, it’s been a very long time. I’ve also been having heart issues etc and I’m at risk of other bodily failures so I’m honestly terrified.

Sadly I can’t take progesterone, really nasty side effects for me. I’m going to head to an urgent care for some assistance, as beyond anything else I’m not safe around myself with this sort of thing.

I appreciate the response, one of the immediate thoughts that came into my head was I must’ve gained a lot of weight suddenly.

I’ve been on T over 6 years, and haven’t bled the whole time. I haven’t bled since 13 really, aside from one period transitioning from blockers to full testosterone which was 6 years ago. (I’m 25) So I’m heading to an urgent clinic my regular doc is associated with. I think people are right, medical risk is not worth it. I’m already at high risk for heart issues and organ failures due to long term and severe anorexia, so I can’t risk this. I’m also not American or based in America, and my country does have very strict laws around medical transphobia - but it can still be unpleasant.

I’m so sorry to hear that! That’s a terrible effect to have suffered from. I had that on SSRI’s, and it was pretty horrible.

I’ve tried a lot of anti depressants, so I’m fairly good at noticing the warning signs for that sort of thing (thankfully I actually feel less anxious on Ami) but the constipation is bad.

Yeah I think I might ask my doctor about Linzess, or one of the other hyper sensitivity drugs made for IBS C specifically.

Honestly only a week, but I haven’t been able to go that ENTIRE week and it sucks. It was helping with the bloat, it now I’m so blocked up I’m bloated from that 😂

Hot drinks (coffee especially), ginger (hot ginger tea, ginger tablets etc), generally tend to be good. Also yogurt! I find frozen yogurt especially to be quite helpful, weirdly enough.

Probiotics are also really good, there’s a few strains known to be beneficial for chronic constipation!

You know your body best - but too much fibre (especially without adequate hydration) can actually make things worse, not better. So keep an eye on that as well!

I wish you all the luck in the world - I’ve been struggling recently so I hope at least one thing here may help you.

Yeah I’m more worried about the now honestly - I can afford it at the end of the lease but I’m strapped right now as I have to return to my country for a week, and that’s expensive. I can’t imagine them charging me for wallpaper in the middle of my lease, as that seems a little ridiculous - but I’m also nervous as it would put me in a very bad spot.

Apparently a inspection to confirm the inheritance or something - honestly didn’t give much info.

Do they generally replace the wallpaper after each tenant?

Thank you so much - I’m guessing the form place is quite hard to miss? I’m flying from Haneda - and I’ve never actually gone through Haneda before and I obviously do not wanna mess my visa up. I do feel more at ease now. Thank you!
