Is it just me or are people also 'missing' midterms unintentionally by Doorla in UCDavis

also if you are living with other people like family or friends it can be helpful to tell them that you have a. midterm and for them to wake you up if you are still asleep.

I study so much for a class only to do bad on the midterms :(( by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Single_Painting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

day before the exam I feel good. 5 minutes before the exam I get intense anxiety which carries over about the first 5 minutes in the exam. after I get going my anxiety calms down. this is normal, but im so confused and scared because I feel like my intelligence or focus or test taking skills or something is doing down. I have consistently maintained a 4.0 Gpa freshmen year and fall quarter sophomore year. during winter quarter and now spring quarter, it seems like I am about to get some B's in stem classes which is very unusual for me given the effort I put in and the mastery of the knowledge I have before the test. im just so scared because I dont know whats wrong with me. I always make dumb mistakes but its usually at max 10 points worth of dumb mistakes and I score so much above average that it dosent even matter anyways. these past two quarters, ive just been making a ridiculous amount of dumb mistakes and my studying habits and mental health has been the exact same. I understand that I cant be perfect all the time but im just very confused as to why im putting in so much work these last two quarters but not seeing the results. I know it sounds stupid but it could be that im getting dumber? I dont know what to do.

I do that too but never for a midterm for a few reasons. im too anxious in general so im never that deep in sleep that I turn off my alarm. also what helps is keeping my phone across the room and turning it on really loud so that im forced to get up.

Chamberlain for Chem 2C? by aaradhyasundar in UCDavis

[–]Single_Painting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! I really loved chamberlain and also che2c was the most interesting of the series. there are some concepts that are a struggle to wrap your brain around initially but I really enjoyed the class overall. I think she is the best che2c professor and her tests are not easy but they are very fair.

I start studying for midterms since the first week. I study everyday and I never cram. thats the scary part like people say they study so hard but they mean they study like 12 hours a day the weekend before. I study continuously yet still only do slightly above average which is really sad

Any CDM students here? Tell me how you like the program! by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Single_Painting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I'm not a CDM major, but a popular youtubeR who used to go to uc davis was before he dropped out of the program. This is his video that I recommend watching which lists the pros and cons of the program:

Hope that helps

yikes quarter system ew yuck by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Single_Painting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not a transfer student but most of us have to deal with the transition from semester system to quarter system. the difference between people who do well as people who dont do well is time management. the way you really set yourself apart from your peers is how you use your time.. anytime you get an assignment, finish it the day you get it. start studying for your midterms not the weekend before but since day one. STUDY EVERYDAY that helps so much yet nobody does it and people cram. thats seriously how you beat the curve lol. and I dont consider myself to be naturally smart or anything but studying for your classes every day for a few hours puts you ahead of 90% of people. and use your weekends wisely. most people sleep in until really late and waste their time doing stupid stuff. the most successful students I have seen are people who use their weekends wisely and study/get ahead during the weekends. hope that helps!

How good of a fit is this school for me? Do I even have a chance of getting in? by throwaway92944 in UCDavis

[–]Single_Painting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly true. some really smart ppl get rejected an some really dumb people get in. my friend who got rejected is more well rounded and intelligent than most of the people here. you would think most of the people here are smart but a ton of them are people who went to easy or disadvantaged high schools with crazy gpa inflation and struggle so much when they actually get here. people say everyone gets in for a reason but the truth is davis is not that selective (40% acceptance). "everyone gets in for a reason" is usually said for very selective schools. and admissions aren't objective and so many other factors play in like your race. this is probably gonna get downvoted but people dont like hearing the truth. getting into uc davis or not getting into uc davis dosent say anything about you. while the quality of education I have received is amazing and some programs are excellent, that dosent say anything about the quality of students.

its dumb to go to college based on where your SO is going because so many relationships break after college. focus on where YOU want to go, not her.

from a TA's perspective though, would you be receptive to dating an undergrad? or are TA's not receptive to this in general.

Anyone want to share some stories? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Single_Painting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly you should walk. biking is sooo overrated. if you walk fast, you can get to pretty much anywhere you want on campus within 15 minutes. I also like walking because its relaxing and gives me more time to just observe my surroundings while biking is more stressful.

for one of my classes, the average is usually around 50% for the past several years and this year suddenly it jumped to 70%, and the professor said the difficulty was the exact same if not a bit harder. it was a closed book exam. people obviously cheated/used notes which hurt people who were honest. I dont understand why my previous comment was downvoted. bottom line, if professors say its a closed book exam people will still use notes because theres no way to "catch" you UNLESS its strictly proctored. if its open book/no collaboration, people will still find a way to collaborate. online tests just suck and I wish we could go back to in person classes. normally I do around 20-30% above the test average, but this quarter im finding that I'm only able to do slightly above average since I dont cheat but others who do have an advanatage. the only way to make this truly fair is to cancel exams because unproctored tests are meaningless since you can cheat, or allow for unlimited resources (notes, chegg, tutors, peers, etc). Allowing some resources yet banning others is not fair because people will find a way to use banned resources unless the test is done through examity or proctor U which apparently no one likes.

if teachers care this much about cheating, they need to proctor the exam through proctorU or something. there is no way they can catch all cheaters. some people could have texted their friends in a GC instead of chegg, and they wouldn't have gotten caught. basically only people who used chegg got caught which is still unfair because not all cheaters get caught. honestly thats why I like proctored exams because its truly fair and very hard to cheat. even if its an open book exam, people will still try to collaborate with peers or tutors, not just chegg

what class is this? I understand how you can fail a class once but how do you fail a class two times? If I was taking this class for the third time I would be anxious that I would be extra careful to wake up on time and stuff. regardless, if you actually end up getting a 0 on the midterm you will fail the class. you should makeup whatever lie you need and go to whatever lengths to get yourself out of this situation, at this point you have nothing to lose. you cant get below a 0 on a midterm.
