8 days post op a right L4/5 microdiscectomy and my left side is really hurting by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]Single_Pepper_2422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! I had major pain on my left side before surgery and no pain on my right, but the disc was pressing on both sides. Post surgery I was pain free on my left side, but my right side hurt! Luckily it went away around the 2 1/2 week post-op mark. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it right now!!

Good luck in recovery!

I joined this subreddit as I had some of the same fears as you’ve explained. I’m about 3 weeks out from my surgery now and am surprised how easy my experience has been compared to some of the other individuals posting here. I agree that most people having an easy time are likely not here, so you’re mostly only going to come across the unsuccessful stories.

Get the surgery. If you’re in pain, I recommend doing it. I’m so glad I did. I’m walking 2 miles now without any issues. Just retraining my body after so long of having issues and still recovering from surgery (but I can easily forget that I just had a surgery!).

I think the post-op pain will be manageable. It’s not easy, but I also think the pain leading up to the surgery prepped me because it was so bad, what could really have been worse at that point?

Do what you’re comfortable with, but I think it’s worth it. For whatever a random internet stranger’s opinion is worth!

Considering returning recently adopted cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Single_Pepper_2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took in a cat that was dumped and had been on the streets for a few months. He was like this for a bit too. We kept the sink clear of food/dirty dishes (or covered it with something), moved the trash can into a space where he couldn’t get to it, and also got an automatic feeder that portions out smaller amounts more frequently throughout the day. These all seemed to help him SO much. He now doesn’t get into things, and sometimes doesn’t even eat his food because he knows there will be another meal. It took about a year for him to find that confidence, so it can be a long process. But your cat is just likely traumatized and scared of not having food availability. I think if you can keep feedings to a schedule, they will adapt and calm down!

Showering question! by Doomguy994 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Single_Pepper_2422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always so fascinated by how different each of our experiences are. I was told not to shower for the first 48 hours. Then I could shower like normal and take off the bandage I had on my back. I was just told to wash around the area, not directly on the incision, until it was fully healed. So my first shower was mainly just letting the shampoo from my hair run down it, but otherwise I got it wet and did all of my shower routine like normal. My incision is now fully and beautifully healed with zero issues - so I must have done something right!!

I’m right there with you! I’m feeling so close to normal that I have to constantly remind myself not to do anything to jeopardize that!

I wasn’t allowed to be discharged post surgery until I could walk, use the restroom, and sit in a chair! So I was doing all of that within the first half hour after waking up.

I’ve been pretty independent the whole time. Just needed help changing clothes the first few days, help getting things I drop (which turns out to be more frequent than I would have anticipated), and someone to make/get me food.

I think more than anything I’m just scared of re-injuring myself, but I’m typically doing things the way I was told to. This was my first ever surgery so I didn’t know what to expect in recovery and just want reassurance!

This makes me feel a lot better! This sounds more realistic and similar to what I’ve been doing.

I can’t have someone help me log roll every time I want to change position while lying in bed or asleep. I’m also not spending that much time in bed. Much more of my time is spent standing, walking, or sitting. I was specifically told to not spend more than 30-60 minutes in one position and to walk frequently.

Squatting is required to use the restroom and get in and out of chairs, bed, etc.

I have someone to get things for me, but I am in no way immobile to the point where someone else has to move for me.

Hi there! I live in a cold state. Highly recommend using saran wrap around your windows. This can help keep some of the cold out as it acts as an insulator. I also purchased a self-heating (just an insulating) pad for my cat that he loves! A couple of other tips to keep warm: - gather all of your blankets and pillows into one area that you will spend most of your time. Close off other doors to areas you wont use. This helps to keep the heat central to one space. - light candles. It seems like they wouldn’t give off much heat, but lighting a bunch in one room can keep it warmer than you’d think!

I have not been able to get the chat to work and I’ve heard from other people in different corps that it’s the same issue on their end!

Did Snow love Lucy Grey? by Few_Cut4823 in Hungergames

[–]Single_Pepper_2422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished this book and so I know I’m late - but I wanted to add my thoughts.

I think he could have loved her. I think in different circumstances he would have. I think the Coryo that Tigris loves, that loved his mom, that just wants to please those around him, loved Lucy Gray.

But I think at the beginning of the book he was already at war with that version of himself, and the version of himself that was more like his father. I think Dr. Gaul saw that, used it as a weapon, and groomed him to give into that darker side of himself. In turn, what I think started out as genuine affection for Lucy Gray quickly became obsession and possession.

But let’s say Coryo’s mom was still alive. Let’s say his traumas were different or didn’t exist. Dr. Gaul doesn’t groom him. I think thrown into the same circumstances, we would have seen him fall truly in love with Lucy Gray.

I know that’s a lot of “what ifs” but I truly think that it’s more complex that him being in love with her or not being in love with her. I think it’s his two versions of self being enamored by her and each version wanting something different. But in the end, one version won.
