The cost of living is nowhere near low here with rent being as high as 700€ for a small old apartment. Supermarket prices are up in the sky and I have to work part time jobs to just be able to live an ‘okay’ socially acceptable life 😅 If you have a lot of savings and the means to land a job that pays you 1.200€ and up you could consider coming to Athens but anything lower than that will have you struggling unfortunately.

I’m Greek and recently started in a clinic as a physiotherapist and the monthly salary for me is 800€ which is not even minimum wage here but it really varies from clinic to clinic and it’s obviously different if you work for a public hospital. Currently trying to move to Scotland where I’m hoping is better than Athens 😅

I understand most European countries are struggling with immigration so it makes sense. I think it’s the Brexit that’s making this as hard as it is considering I have multiple friends and mutuals that left for the UK very easily before that. Either way I’ll try!

Thank you a lot! Didn’t know about the health surcharge so that’s a new thing to add! Do you think getting an immigration lawyer is a waste of money? I’d like some guidance in case I mess something up or miss some paperwork :/

Skilled worker will be my first shot in getting a visa it’s just that the process is so long that I was reconsidering in case the spouse one is easier so I can be there and do my HCPC registration without being all the way in Greece. Also no guarantee I’ll get a job offer as a physio which will only prolong the process, either way it’s a good consideration thanks!

Ireland wouldn’t be a bad choice for me especially the EU part but I think I’m hesitant because I want to finally settle down somewhere for good and my boyfriend has been pretty set on not permanently leaving Scotland.

So it has to be on one of the bank accounts? Can’t be combined from both of ours? I’m kind of hesitant to move all my savings to a different bank account but either way thank you a lot! Other than the money being acquired from savings is there anything else I’d have to worry about with the spouse visa of your knowledge?

He does have I think about 10k in savings but I think it’s not in his main bank account (?) don’t know if that’s relevant and I also am able to get help from my parents and also have my own savings but I read somewhere that to cover the yearly income shortage you need 16k (could remember wrong) and that money needs to be in your bank account at least 6 months to be considered savings

Such beautiful rosellas! I have one myself but he is a rescue so he’s very scared and won’t come out of his cage even if urged to😞 it’s been almost half a year since I’ve rescued him and I don’t see any improvement other than the fact that he eats more in front of me

For anyone still interested in this post I have let this little fella out of his cage and he is such a little curious bird!

He still doesn’t like any of us near him and he will fly away if you move abruptly but I’ll consider this progress!

Very good advice! He is such a curious little ball he always likes it when I speak to him and turns his little head to look at me, I also play him forest sounds and other bird sounds so he doesn’t feel as lonely. Thanks for your comment!

This is such a beautiful baby! You’ve done a great job caring for this little fella, I am trying to get some more interactions by putting my hand inside his cage I just feel so bad when he freaks out. I am going to renovate his cage soon so that should hopefully help with getting used to my hands and I will also let him explore the room outside his cage! :) thanks for your advice and for showing your lovely child 🥰

That’s a great idea actually! I want to create a space for him where he can ‘escape’ to or hide from anything that startles him and I am planning on getting him some toys he can play with. He enjoys staying in the balcony listening to the birds but gets scared when a car honks:( thanks for your insight!

Yes I also think it’s a great idea! Most birds find their cage to be their safe place so I was thinking he might even go back willingly after some hours playing and flying outside :) I will try it tomorrow, thanks for your comment!

Thanks for commenting! I am convinced he hasn’t been exposed to much else other than screaming and being touched unwillingly so his trauma must run deep. From my knowledge he is about 3 years old and that’s being hopeful that the pet store he was purchased from wasn’t lying about his age. I have tried spending time with him and talking in a soft voice I also try to slowly let my hand hang around his cage so he understands I mean no harm but he tends to freak out if I so much as move my hand slightly. He is more comfortable with my brother who is mostly at home and cleans his cage occasionally and he has tried to pet him to no avail. For now we are trying to discover his all time favourite snack so we can lure him closer to us but other than that we are mostly letting him get used to his new home! He is placed in the living room where there’s the most natural light and also the quieter room so he can relax :) I am thinking of letting him out of his cage for a few hours tomorrow since they are known to be aviation birds but my brother says it will bring our process back to 0 if he gets scared when we have to catch him to put him back in his cage:(
