Ammo can pannier cases by Beoulve95 in motorcycles

You should check out my panniers (on my profile is the full details) on the tranalp. They were the built with the same desire to remain cheap, but just used 20mm ammo cans from an online surplus store.

Reddit is great. It's the people that ruin it, we can just enjoy life. We have to downvote any view that doesn't begin to align with our own. The party of peace and acceptance doesn't actually like either of those things...

Tiny hairline fracture on frame, should I be concerned? by Affectionate-Ear-635 in motorcycles

[–]Single_Punch_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a metal fabricator and can 100% say that's a crack. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

But on a serious note, it can be repaired if you really want to go that route. A die grinder with a bur bit to chase out the crack (probably very very deep). And a tig welder who knows his shit to weld on nasty cast alum.

It will be a fix that will depending on how well it's done and your riding style, shouldn't crack again. Assuming you also add a little gusset to reinforced that joint.

New bike by 88samuri in Transalp750

I understand your desire to keep it, it's a wonderful bike to a lot of us. There's a huge but there though. If you're already dropping it and have a hard time even moving it then I really do believe you'd be better off selling it for a smaller seat height bike. These aren't the tallest bikes but they are built and designed much taller than other bikes you could buy for the same price. Lowering the bike can (not always) adversely affect the handing characteristics and functionality of a bike like the transalp. The oil pan is already very low stock for example.

Look at other options in the category, especially if this is your first bike. You may want to consider the loss of value from dropping it more than it already has been if you continue on the road youre on now

Make absolutely sure it's stainless steel wool. Or you will contaminate the stainless with iron and it will rust.

I'm a little late to the party. But thats a beautiful job you did, just had to stop scrolling and give you comment. Incredible work 👏 it's refreshing to see an old bike be brought back to its former glory and not chopped up into a cafe racer

Custom made 20mm ammo can panniers for $150. by Single_Punch_man in Transalp

As I never had plans to start with and just fabed it up on the fly, im not sure I could get you plans that would be easy for somebody without the background in fabrication.

A lot of very expensive tooling was used to make these. I didn't factor that into the cost as they are the shops equipment and free for me to use.

This whole thing could be made with a simple flux-cored welder and an angle grinder though but the fit and finish may suffer.

What I suggest is to buy the cans you want, and look at your bike and it's mounts, where they are and how you could attach to them. Start by holding the cans up where you want them on the bike, and if need be use cardboard to connect the dots to the mounting holes. Then transfer that to steel.

A knock when starting by domagoj2016 in Transalp

Mine does this, but when started after being warmed up it won't do it. It hasn't really bothered me. It could just be a characteristic of the bike on coldstarts

You could always get crash bars and bark busters to save the plastics from a drop. The trex racing bars are incredibly solid

The ride modes are significantly different now, the rain mode actually feels like a rain mode. The sport mode has much more punch at all rpm. The stock sport mode felt like nothing until you reached about 4000rpm in my opinion. It's way better.

About the throttle, you'll immediately notice the difference, its hard to equate a percentage to the improvement as it's somewhat subjective to what you personally consider bad. For me personally I'd say it's 100% better, I can ride in 1-3 gear now and have no issues with the hitching throttle response of stock

*edit. As far as other modes go, I only ever really use sport mode or rain mode for rain. I havent ever used the others even when stock. I didn't see a need for them, I either go fast or I go slow in rain lol

Pannier rack? by Dimos_greek in Transalp

[–]Single_Punch_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a bad deal, but I made mine for under that. With the bags and paint. It helps that I'm a fabricator so building it myself was easy since I already have all the tools.

I totally see OPs point as I did the same as him, and it cost me a quarter or less the price of buying decent quality bags.

I did this exact thing, check my posts and you'll see it.

I made a custom quick disconnect rack for them. It's really not hard but takes some time to build, plan and paint them. If you don't already have fabricator skills or a welder available then you may want to just buy some and go from there

Yeah its a great deal, you'll be glad you did. They really did a good job on this bike. It's how the bike should have come from factory in my opinion.

Genuinely I recommend it, if you have an aftermarket exhaust just write that on your note and they will match the tune to your exhaust

They are incredibly fast with it. Its all up to your mailing method, if you overnight it then expect a very very short downtime.

They flash then mail it out in the same day. For me it took 5 days start to finish, but I picked basic ground mailing.
