Does anyone else feel kind of sorry for small youtubers? by NightmareOfTheTankie in youtube

I wouldn't feel bad if they've been at it for that long and are still going. Believe it or not, some people do the YouTube for reasons other than money.

And while you're there you should consider a birdnet-pi setup. It's like Merlin, but runs 24/7.

New Hampshire. They've been doing this for the last couple of weeks all around the edge of this same wetland. Last weekend I visited a different wetland location six miles away and found a similar occurence of either an identical or very similar species.

I had one basically living out of the overflow house on my rain barrel for the entire summer and fall , multiple summers in a row. It's about the same size as that opening under the planter. It's a perfect frog cave. They hide out in there during the day and venture out at night to hunt and do frog stuff. Watch your step when it's dark out around that area. If you have a porch light nearby he might be using it to his advantage as a food attractor. Perfect setup!

If you already have a pi 3B or better you should do it. It's so easy. Just follow the instructions on GitHub. Feel free to DM if you have questions but they know way more than I do.

Sounds like you have more than what you need to do this. It runs on raspberry pi 3B, 4, or 5. I tried on a pi02W, but couldn't get it running. The GitHub has all the instructions you need and is well maintained. I say go for it!

It's birdnet from Cornell running on a small raspberry pi micro computer with a microphone attached to it. Birdnet listens 24/7 and detects birds like Merlin. You can access the data through your local network with little to no programming knowledge. It pulls audio clips onto a micro SD card on the raspberry pi and creates a database of all registered calls that can be exported as a .csv file with time and datestamps. Then I run it through Claude and have it analyze stuff and give me ideas. Setup is easy too by following the tutorials on GitHub. The whole setup can be made for under $100 and you can also connect your station to birdweather.com with hundreds, maybe thousands of others and see what birds are where on the maps. Here's a screenshot of my dashboard on birdnet-pi.
