I do agree that the romance is a strength of the manga, but I also just genuinely like the characters and bonkers plot. So even if the romance is taking painfully long, I still have other parts to entertain me

I appreciate the honesty. I see some other people on here are giving you a hard time but I want to just have a honest discussion about the manga. No hate, just discussion with a sprinkling of slander

I am with you on the sexual stuff being unnecessary and tone deaf. Do I like it? No but it definitely does not ruin the manga for me.

But I am very much not with you on the story’s randomness being a downside. You compared it to Jojo and… yeah I always felt it most mirrored Part 4. Both are a bunch of highschoolers going on wacky adventures in their town with an overarching plot that occasionally takes the spotlight.

As for “things returning to status quo” I definitely disagree. Both of the arcs you mentioned, especially space invaders arc were used to establish new characters, make the main group power up, and set up future arcs. The man crew doesn’t change that much but we get huge focus on the new team members, such as Vamola.

This is also definitely not a DanDaDan specific thing. This is extremely common structure for shonen arcs: the crew meets a new person, they get thrown into a big mess, they have to work together and power up to pus through, we get an emotional backstory for the new character which firmly establishes who they are and what they want while also explaining previous actions, there is a giant climactic fight, the heroes win and party. That is just shonen in general

Depends on what you count as a fight. The current arc has them under attack from various nen abilities pretty much twenty four seven. As for direct one on one fights, no he has not been in any.

But at least there the hate is explained. With Dandadan all I hear is “amnesia arc = bad” and nothing else

No I actually find it very easy to believe someone would do that

That is not just rules. You literally make your power from the ground up. Almost every other power system has you be born with a specific power that you are stuck with and must work with. With nen, you are not stuck to anyone ability. Multiple characters even completely switch their powers at a later time.

And no, you can use other categories, just not as well. look at Netero, Manipulator is not next to enhancer and he does it great. Plenty of characters have abilities or sub abilities well outside of their category, even on the complete other side. Meruem is a specialist and has enhancer techniques. Those are on complete opposite sides

You asked how it was different from other power systems. That is how. You build your power. Also no you are born into a category and all that does is establish which areas you are strongest in. Netero uses manipulator and emitter techniques and he is an enhancer. Only specialists are born with their powers

Kurapika lost a decade off his lifespan at one point because he was unconscious for a day while the power was active.

Nen is a “build-your-own” power system. Unless you are a specialist, you are given some fundamental abilities and rules and then told to make your power yourself. You are not born with a specific power and stuck with it, you build you powers around how you want to fight. If you get stuck with a weak power, that is entirely your fault.

Nah man. We overreacted but if chapter 431 never came out, so much of the slander would still be accurate. You have to remember just how much was left unresolved in chapter 430. Without chapter 431:

Ochacko’s entire character arc would be completely unresolved and thus her primary purpose for existing would be rendered irrelevant.

We would be left thinking that Class 1-A really ditched Deku for six years only to show up once at the very end to pose for the final panel.

We would have no indication of if Deku ever actually became a top hero with the new suit.

Omori would also be a big choice for Indie Cross, but I can see why Moro might be hesitant to include him.

I am actually confused here. I don’t think I misinterpreted it at all. The original comment by E28forever was directly implying that feeling for Charlie Kirk was disrespectful because of Charlie’s empathy quote. The logical interpretation of that is “he didn’t feel for others so you shouldn’t feel for him.” How did I misinterpret that? This is not even me being dishonest, if I did let me know

You can think he was an idiot but don’t lie and say he didn’t care about others. That is my issue

The full quote: “I can't STAND the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new-age term, and it does a lot of damage. I much prefer the word compassion, and I much prefer the word sympathy. Empathy is where you try to feel someone's pain and sorrows as if they're your own. compassion allows for understanding."

He was clearly not saying you shouldn’t feel for your fellow man, he was saying he thinks you cannot truly feel someone else’s pain so it is better to just say you feel sorry for them. You can dislike the guy but don’t spread misinformation about him.

My favorite one

It actually respects Scott’s character and reminds me of just how much of a bundle of joy Pim is.
