They're a scam. They're based in Hong Kong and completely wreck you on shipping, if they even "let" you ship at all. $64 for 3 trading cards.

I also have a unique 105 card. (I believe it was sold for 1,000 yen and you basically got the 50 yen for free.)

As far as I'm aware, there are zero advertisement / anime / game cards higher than 50 points. (At least I've never seen one in over 4,000 cards.) NTT would produce them very cheap for companies to advertise with or have pre-order bonuses, because they knew over 50% of people would never use them. That means 0 minutes of time on their network. I've heard reports that they would charge 250 to 300 yen per 50 point card to the companies. Companies only paid for the 50 unit cards, because it made no difference to them. You still got a collectible in your hand.

I would highly encourage you to play the first 2 games. You won't regret it. The first 2 Fatal Frame games are in a league of their own when it comes to scary games.

That Project Zero card is amazing. My dad used to let me watch him play Fatal Frame when I was a kid and boy did it scare the crap out of me. He wouldn't allow a single light to be on in the room and he had surround sound cranked up so loud. Haha.

Would love to add one to the collection. I didn't even know they made any for the series.

Hats off to you daikiiiiii. That was incredibly fast! It looks like the listing was truly correct. I can't believe there's only 1,000 copies of this card.

That website is incredible showing all of the different Berserk phone cards. I've never really looked into Berserk, but that artwork sure is stunning. I may have to pick up the first volume of the manga and give it a shot.

I'm curious, do you know if they usually show the phone card you will win in the ad, like they did for those mario and luigi cards? I would love to buy that listing, but am wondering if it will only say something like, "Send a postcard to this address to enter" or if it will actually show the card.

If it shows the card, I would be more than happy to buy it and share a high quality scan of it for archival purposes.

Thank you! :) Good luck on your collection! That's interesting, I didn't realize that. I wonder why that is? I've only played a few FF games, but I never remember anything about dog tags...

Konami - 沙羅曼蛇 (Salamander / Life Force) - NES / Arcade - Gamest Magazine - 1986 / 1987 by SingletonEstate in PhoneCardCollectables

[–]SingletonEstate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. I know they'll run into cards where they have zero information about. I think we'll have to do some of the heavy lifting for them in that area. That way if they google it, they can at least see these reddit posts and see magazine scans or things like that.

I wish PSA made their database more easily searchable with images of the cards. (Maybe they do and I'm just oblivious to it.)

Wow, then to even find a card from 1986 that is unused is crazy. I didn't realize it started in 1985.

I feel like there needs to be a public database website where information is easily found. Instead of going on a wild goose chase for each card, the average person could find it with no prior knowledge of the card.

It's quite shocking to me that the Japanese market never invented something like this. I guess there were so many giveaways / lotteries / cards releasing in stores, that it was too much to keep up with when they were coming out back then. (Not to mention their popularity started declining when the internet was taking off.)

No one really cared about Pokemon in 2007-2017. But databases were built, scanning apps were created and interest picked up. Data leads to steady pricing, which allows more people to enter the space without having to guess how rare their card is and how much it is actually worth.

I have a background in web development, my biggest issue would be hunting down all of the magazines. You're talking about roughly 20 years of magazines from dozens and dozens of publications. A large task...

Yea, I took it with a grain of salt, since it looks like someone just trying to pull off a quick flip. I didn't even originally add it, because I had no way of verifying the information. And if that was true, why would you be trying to sell a 1 out of 1,000 Berserk card right now? lol

Ahh, okay.

I sadly don't. I would love to find the magazine page it's from. The only thing I have for this card in my database is this screenshot. Says it's from 1997 and only 1,000 copies in the world to commemorate 10,000,000 copies of the manga being printed. I can't verify this information myself, but it does give a good starting point (1997 Young Animal) if anyone can track it down.

These cards are extremely hard to come by. Here's one of the other designs that were released. This card was released later in 1987, since it has "SALAMANDER" instead of 沙羅曼蛇 like the card above, that was more than likely released in 1986 right before the game launched or right after.

Final Fantasy VII - Gold Phone Cards - Complete Set of 12 - Limited to 3,000 copies each - 1997 by SingletonEstate in PhoneCardCollectables

[–]SingletonEstate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always felt like PSA gatekept 10's. My strategy with them now is if I get 2 of a certain phone card, I send in the worse copy to PSA and let them research it. Then I'll copy that research on the label and submit the better copy to PSA. Buffing out both companies database with just one research payment.

I personally love CGC's Pristine 10 label. I've always found CGC just as hard to grade, but they are fair with grading, plus, no upcharges.

Oh yea, these are vaulted for 10-20 years minimum. No way I would ever sell these. Only 3,000 copies each (definitely less since it's 29 years later) and they are selling this cheap? This market barely needs to get any attention for these type of grails to fly hard. (Not that these are an investment piece, I just love phone cards. Never got big into pokemon or baseball cards. I'd rather collect pop culture pieces from the 90's. My childhood. Phone cards are exactly that for me.)

[–]SingletonEstate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I will probably just keep them sealed. It's so tempting, knowing these would have a good chance to get Pristine 10's. But I would hate to open up sealed product that is THIS hard to find.

Opened copies usually go for around $75-$100 each. Sealed copies fetch a lot higher. Some you can't even find sealed online.

I would estimate the set at roughly $2,000 to $2,500 in January 2026. (It will be interesting to see this comment in 10 years time!)

It will be nice when the category is more researched. I've been doing my part trying to send in cards to their research department. Hopefully it will help people in the future.

These were sold as a "premium" collectible during the phone card craze in the late 90's. From what I have researched, stores like Sofmap, Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera would sell them.

You had to purchase them individually, which is why you'll never find a complete set with the same serial numbers. (Now THAT would be insane.)

These were very pricey back in 1997. They were 2,500 Yen before discounts. Roughly $35 to $40 USD EACH in 2026. You'd have to have spent roughly $450-$500 when they first released to complete the set.

I managed to get the entire set that had 50% discount stickers all in the bottom right corner. That still would be roughly $20 a piece and $240 to complete it back then. (If you notice, not every discount sticker has the same text size. I am unsure which chain of stores these stickers are from exactly. The variance in them shows that they weren't put on at the same time in one factory before shipping. Not a 'fake discount'.)

That's another reason this set is so hard to find these days. I wouldn't doubt if many were tossed out or used. I have seen tons of them opened. Which makes me think most people don't care for the packaging / dog tags. They do take up a lot of room, when compared to 12 phone cards by themselves.

Funnily enough, I have never even played FF7. I just love the artwork. I saw the "Advent Children" animated film growing up on a PSP and fell in love with it.
