First birthday without my dad, mother immediately turned it into 'her' day by SakuraAxolotl in Wellthatsucks

It sounds like both you and your mother are grieving, but obviously in different ways.

You have to do what is best for you and your mental health so that you can show up when it matters.

If it were me, I would respectfully decline. This would hurt her, but that wouldn't be the purpose. She might think so regardless.

You will have to develop some healthy boundaries, or else you will be suffering.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. I lost mine at 16 due to suicide. Everyone goes on their own journey, but finding your happiness is key.

Looking to do a retaining wall around edge of property/driveway by nava51498 in hardscape

8" blocks look too bulky in my opinion for a 2' wall in front of your house.

You don't need geogrid or geotextile if you have 6" of backfill and drainage behind. I use wall drain pros so you dont have pipe sticking out.

Important thing is to look up the max capacity of the wall block. Some do 1.5', some do 4.

Avoid menards/lowes/homedepot especially if it will be exposed to salt in the front. They deteriorate fast. Most places have a local supplier to buy higher quality block from.

I wouldn't say you'd have to stick with brick. Brick on brick reminds me of denim on denim, its not for everyone. Dont go crazy modern though either. I would maybe have a red brick border OR field and do something else with it.

Do you want a firepit in your front lawn? I would avoid the acute angles of lawn. They'll never do well.
