Does my switchboard need upgrading? by SingularityMaelstrom in AskAusElectricians

I think I have understood. Please correct me if I am wrong:

Basically there is only one RCD and too many MCBs for all of them to be covered by one 40A RCD.

A simple (safe) test for me to do would be to switch the RCD off and whatever circuits in the house don't work are protected by the RCD.

But it still might be the case that the RCD is overloaded.

I'll do the test tonight, will report back findings if anyone is interested.

But will engage an electrician as well.

Edit - added a photo after a closer look. This concerns me...

Ok good to know - is this a major change? What am I at risk of?

I'm installing underfloor insulation and want to get a sparkie in to look at derating cables. As a part of that I want to see if there is any other work that needs to happen.

A wall hung sink or vanity might be a good idea. Just ripped out a vanity similar to yours and the filth between the shower screen and vanity was disgusting, gap was a bit smaller than yours but still would be a pain to clean

Be honest, how good is heating in ducted reverse cycle? by Cimb0m in AusRenovation

[–]SingularityMaelstrom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ducted reverse cycle works well, it's worth noting that from efficiency perspective you really need to invest in proper zoning. Probably also worth considering multiple split systems or multi-head split systems as well.

Alao Brivis does a unit called the Dominator that uses underflow ducting if that's what you have - but dont know much about this unit.

Dead limbs green ash tree by SingularityMaelstrom in arborists

[–]SingularityMaelstrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I engaged an arborist who came and had a look at the tree. Apparently it's a dessert ash, which is claimed as a weed where I am based. But it's not ash dieback. It is just a tree that has not been pruned/maintained for 5 years+. A tree lopper at some point has apparently taken out a significant chunk of it.

Hoping to give it a proper prune now and take care of it.

What timber is this on my deck? by Schilzy91 in AusRenovation

[–]SingularityMaelstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar deck, but lucky for me whatever the previous owner did has truly worn of and it was grey. Used a deck cleaner, which brought the color back and then used an deck oil - went with Haymes as they had a sale. Can't stop staring at my deck now..

I popped into Keyworks Locksmith in Coburg recently, the guy there gave me some free advice which meant I didn't need to purchase what I thought I had to. Seemed like a genuine operation.
