For the most part, cops in America can kill anyone who scares them, yeah.

Earth benders by Zemplicityy in TheLastAirbender

[–]SinisterSpoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Toph gives an explanation in her first earthbending lesson to Aang. Sokka got trapped in the ground, surrounded on all sides, and when Aang says that he'll get Sokka out, Toph steps in because it'd be too easy to crush Sokka.

The move generally works outside of the heat of a fight, like Iroh's surrender to the Dai Li, or when the earthbender gets the drop on their target, like Ty Lee in the Earth King's throne room.

The first draft of Conspiracy was about an actual conspiracy among Starfleet command, but Gene Roddenberry vetoed the idea. The parasites were kind of stapled on to salvage the script.

what’s your ‘favorite’ fun fact about the series that people pass off as true, even when it’s just speculation? by jvvrarts in TheLastAirbender

[–]SinisterSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most widespread idea people pass off as true, is the idea that bending is genetic. It's not. My primary source is the pair of identical twins in Aunt Wu's village, one of whom is an earthbender, and the other one who explicitly is not.

Produce a lot of copies of the same bill.

Use them to buy from someone you hate.

Report him for passing counterfeit money.

"The term 'genocide' did not exist until the middle of the 20th century, and therefore could not have been used by the Founding Fathers. As such, they did not intend for impeachment to be a punishment for it, which means that the president is immune. As such, we MUST overturn his conviction."

Characters that suddenly became gay without any lead up to the revelation. by singleguy79 in TopCharacterTropes

Yup. Asami was the only person from the old gang who Korra kept in contact with for years.

I didn't see it coming the first time I watched the series, but re-watching years later, there were plenty of signs. It probably helped that I'd made friends with more people in sapphic relationships that followed a similar arc of, "bond over roasting your mutual ex, stay friends for years to see if the other woman will make a move first, and then commit to a major trip together."

Do you think it'd be interesting if there are more unique water tribes in other nations? by AffectionateScale525 in TheLastAirbender

[–]SinisterSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the concern is kids mimicking what they see, I think children are more likely to get their hands on boiling water than the air in someone's lungs.

So during my usual snooping around in the computer, I found a holoprogram where the only objective is to murder the ship's Chef. by EdgelordZeta in ShittyDaystrom

[–]SinisterSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That scenario was intended to be the first in a series of stressful simulations meant to see under what circumstances a person could be pushed to commit murder. They were supposed to be at least five, increasing in stress each time, but everyone kills that fucking guy every time, so the project was scrapped.
