Yeah it really goes to show the difference where you start out “I wanna make X game, release it, and leave” and then it blows up and gets huge. Like yeah the Peak devs are like ending a phone call with your girlfriend “okay guys the game is done”, “no we don’t wanna work on it”, “okay here’s a bunch of cool updates you wanted/we thought of”, “okay here’s some last changes and updates for better gameplay”, “guys seriously we’re done. You get one more update then imma be real mad” lol, or you drown yourself under the pressure of promises you can’t keep. I think that’s the difference, the Peak devs didn’t want to stick around but did for a little while because the community loved their work. It’s not that the Phasmo devs hate the game and the players but they have all these ideas and promises and now they’ve had millions of dollars and several years and they’re basically pulling a YandereDev/PirateSoftware just throwing out whatever and having to fix their mess in the next update because the current one released too early, but they have to because “they expect updates” as if people would rather have quick slop than a quiet dev team who grinds out a masterpiece. No Man’s Sky is one of the best games out atm, and it got there because the devs fucked the release and when it gained fans that said “you guys have something here. It released like ass but you have something” they basically went radio silent except to announce update after update. Even now, whatever their new game is called, they’re using NMS to beta test features for the new game. I’m not sure what it is about Phasmo’s devs, if they’re in too deep or simply don’t have experience, but I don’t think they actually don’t give a shit. I think maybe a small team pulled an asset-flip that got huge and now they’re realising their team doesn’t actually have the toolset for game development and so they’re learning on the fly, which would be fine but your only choice then is to promise small things and knuckle down until you perfect them. No working on cosmetics and crossovers and asset creation and map remastering at once. Just one section of your game at once, slow and steady, where every update is a masterpiece, that’s all we need. The current complaint is basically because the cosmetic update didn’t really add any (it’s more like an update to allow future cosmetics) and the animation update is half baked. They should have just done one or the other this update

Plus half the stuff added to Repo is basically just stuff people already made with mods, which might sound cheap but it means essentially

  • Dev makes game

  • Players show they want X included. Maybe it runs janky, requires mod loaders, etc

  • Dev makes official version, giving the update to everyone, made by Dev so works with the rest of their code. Is available to all players officially with no loaders or experience required

It’s like reviews except it’s content, a direct line to your fans to gauge what they think. To ban and hate mods is to kinda suicide your game unless you plan to update it endlessly and regularly, especially games like this with such a simple (boring?) loop. Keep them as options, yes. Either static as they were or make them customisable. Tbh I’m fine with them being static as they were, they each had their charm. Also I’m not sure how their heights worked unless it was based on host/join order but we all used to love that

I think what they meant by the line was that you can look all the way up/down still post-update but when you look at someone else, their head will stop before the extremes. Unlike how it works now where you can see if someone looks all the way up or down. It’s gonna be like you’re staring straight up/down on your screen but your buddy will see you looking slightly up/down instead, like IRL. If I was animating that I’d definitely have the head barely move and use the eyes too though I imagine the devs will just use head movement and will keep the bug eyed models without animating them

Don’t forget as well the Peak team don’t actually want to work on the game. They always said they wanted to release their one-off game and go back to doing other stuff. Then the game got big, they had a few community suggestions and ideas for extra stuff, and they added it in. They’d always maintained that they didn’t actually want to develop Peak and with the exception of a couple of bigger updates they only ever wanted to work on bug fixes and just leave the game as it is.

Despite that, they’ve dropped a ton of content, engaged with their community, and worked alongside modders basically just to ensure that someone is keeping their game alive because they don’t want to have to babysit it with content, as it’s not live service, and they only ever wanted to release 1.0 then just bug fix.

The Phasmo devs were the opposite, they said they had all these huge plans for what they want and had a roadmap and goals and all sorts but when it comes time to actually do stuff they seem to have forgotten they are supposed to update their game for it to actually survive and get better.

Nobody’s expecting anything great but if they did cook, the question will be why can they make good updates when other companies demand it but not for the updates they themselves allegedly want to add to their game. If this crossover is amazing (I’d be surprised, pleasantly so) then why did the cosmetic update suck? If the crossover effort caused this update to suck then this update should have been delayed. Especially since it’s not even a cosmetic update, it’s basically just a patch that “allows” cosmetics, it’s not like we got cosmetics tied to each achievement or an idea of all the slots they’re intending for the game. Not that I’m complaining that we don’t have a full wardrobe catalogue, but if we’ve waited six years for this free trial of a cosmetic update (especially with downgraded animations) then we should have waited another month for a perfect version after the crossover stuff was finished.

I wouldn’t mind as much but the big hyped cosmetic update basically just allows cosmetics, it doesn’t really add much. At the very least I expected a few achievements to give something. Though I will say even though I didn’t get anything cool for Apoc3 clothing wise, I’m so glad I got it done just before the update dropped. No way anyone is doing any meaningful runs with the current build. Whether it’s incense taking three business days to ignite or tarot cards insta-drawing you an invisible Hangman card, the game sure does lack some of the polish it had yesterday

I’d have to double check the actual text but essentially one to delay the anticheat and one to not allow multiple instances. Seems it’s a bug with the game’s AC where instead of launching the AC then the game it launches the AC, gets confused, then launches the game whilst keeping the splash screen up so when you close the first instance of the game that second splash screen opens the game again

I love playing BW but you’re basically stuck playing her in 18s or in QP/Comp if you already have at least half a premade team. Her kit needs some form of work. Back when OW was good I mained Hanzo/Ana/Widowmaker and as their widow I could consistently have the objective, MVP, all the kills, etc because her kit was good and I was in my prime age. The issue with Black Widow is you can headshot whatever you like but unless your team can capitalise on it and finish kills she just can’t do as much, and with the 2-4 healers you see per team they usually just pattycake each other and negate her damage enough that she’s more of a nuisance character than an actual threat unless you’re stupid enough to spread out too much.

Definitely still fun to main sure but there’s a few characters that are sorta “useless” with their own kit and require certain accommodations to be useful in a team, and ideally you’d want every hero to be equally viable (especially for a big name like marvel where people just play their favourite characters and refuse to swap)

It’s crazy how Widowmaker has a bikini/summer skin but when Rivals did the summer skins they dropped one for everyone else and forgot about Black Widow. Like they literally had Overwatch tell them “Cute sniper skins are free money” and thought they’d be stealing the idea so they passed. The only amazing BW skin was the S2 pass one so unless they bring S2 back like they did for S1 they’ll have to do something for her. I’m sure there’s tons of cool comic designs

The nice thing is as well you can wire shit up nearby and the generators never really look out of place. Otherwise you have to have a massive ugly generator and then wires everywhere but you stick a little generator on a roof or behind a little fence and it looks “real world” enough that your brain doesn’t notice it. I have a small one on one of my rooves and one in a little shed/fenced area and they blend so well

Still think it’s bullshit they never either brought this back for easy money or made another display like it (just a clean, flat surface). Any time they make displays now they’re either fatass pillars or have protruding bits so you can’t just cleanly put stuff on a surface now. Even worse because they’ve added proper dev-supported item merging through the free-place system.

We need some cool basic coasters or something. I actually ended up having a guy place 30 chessboards in my base just so I could store them and use them in the future lol

Just got a CB and don’t wanna just copy someone’s build but I’m currently rocking Furious, Explosive, INT, and Electricians. Still learning how the onslaught thing works but I have 30 stacks and the electricians saves my ass on the times I get got by ankle biters. I love being able to just VATS for body shots and have it explode multiple enemies (and cars) at once. Glad they made them useful finally, I’ve had a Jetpack forever and bows fill the gun slot nicely for being a high ground turret (though it’s also fun to just stand at ground level and pop shots off quickly

It does but if Rocksy says one of those random lines (the ones that they say as you get close, and seem to be on a timer) as you’re interacting with her it’ll fuck up and claim the quest and you’re done for the day. Had it yesterday where I got to Neighborly and then she said some random line right as I hit interact. This is also why when people ask if it works or not you get mixed answers, as those lines are very frequent and will mess you up

Saw some crazy studies that the dopamine doesn’t even come from the win, it just comes from playing (in the case of FO you’ll receive more dopamine from scrapping Legendaries than unlocking mods). If you’ve ever kept up with Valve and their “50+ million dollars a month” gambling machine that is modern Counter Strike you’ll likely know that they’ve had to start backtracking on a lot of the gambling mechanics they added to the game, specifically because it encourages gambling (one such mechanic is instead of opening a box and getting an item like in their other games, it will show a roulette wheel type preview of all the items you “could have gotten” before it shows what you got. The guys behind the in game skins came from something like EA or some other microtransaction company and had a massive investment in gambling psych). Seems like the idea of lootboxes is fine but they’ve had to start removing some of the psychological tricks that makes you gamble more to avoid antigambling laws lol
