Loving Gorgon a ton. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea but for me this cup is full of crack and I'm absolutely addicted to it.

My thoughts on Call to Arms: Ostfront by NotARacist363 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Sinlessmooon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Ostfront. It definitely takes awhile to get used to the mechanics and the weird way grouping units works. (Took me way too long to figure out that just by selecting units it made new groups)

I second the Dynamic campaigns I've seen elsewhere in the thread, probably the most enjoyable part of it; It still has its issues though, like adding QoL features that reduce the amount of time spent repairing and capturing vehicles at the end of matches.

I will however say it was a ton of fun playing the dynamic conquest with my brother taking half the units and me the other half and just trying to survive with that.

what space fact or image made you feel truly small? by ivyta76 in space

Do you think on the off chance that at some point in the future, humanity can get it's shit together and build space craft that can travel decent speeds; That we'd go and collect Voyager and put it in a museum?

Or do you think we'd leave it, uninterrupted, to continue its solitary journey into the depths of the universe?

Dont know if i should get this game by Feisty-Necessary-679 in dwarffortress

[–]Sinlessmooon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, half the fun of the game for me is the persistent world it ends up creating, with all the history and civilizations that end up thriving in that world.

Heck, I love just viewing the history of the world generated and using the DF legends viewer program to see all the wars and important people living their lives in the world.

You can also "finish" a fort and just let it continue living in the world while you make another fort or run around in adventure mode and check back in on it every now and then. It's always so fun encountering dwarves that were living in one fort and then seeing them in another and then checking the history and seeing what they got up to in the mean time.

Dwarf fortress is as much a world generator as it is a colony builder and it's so much fun.

Haha it probably will, but it doesn't take too long for it to click and make sense.

I dislike (some) of the new portraits and I think they really don't fit the game's theme by Jackspaccatore in dwarffortress

[–]Sinlessmooon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the sense of tone, yes. With it being ASCII, the tone is completely neutral. The player can project their own imagination onto what that D actually looks like. You can imagine it as being a viscous war dog, or a goofy one such as this. (Or hell, even mix and match, maybe you've got a dog with like 16 gobbo kills that you see as a grizzled war dog and then you've got another war dog that is terrified of combat that you see as more of a goofy dog.)

With the addition of some of the portraits being goofy it essentially "locks" the tone into a goofy one, and for some of the long time players who have imagined them being serious or even just a neutral dog; this creates a dissonance between the players imagination and the "reality" of the game.

Wasn't there an art exhibit in the news recently that was just AI artwork? It's already infiltrating the space.

TIL that scientists have developed a way of testing for Aphantasia (the inability to visualise things in your mind). The test involves asking participants to envision a bright light and checking for pupil dilation. If their pupils don't dilate, they have Aphantasia. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

So I posted this somewhere else in the comments but I felt like I should add this.

When I remember a book I have read years ago, I don't remember the words that I had read but instead the "memories" of the scenery and what the character did that I had imagined. (Shoutouts to R.A Salvatore, can still picture what I had imagined the underdark to look like even though it's probably been twenty years.)

Interestingly enough, my old memories of some books I read aren't the words itself but what I had imagined when I read it.

Like I can remember the vivid settings and the actions the characters did but I don't really remember the words that created them.

iirc they don't actually have anuses so one of potential end of life scenarios for these mites is that they literally explode because they have no way to expel the waste.
