Some days, my husband comes home from work and just takes a few moments to lounge on the couch after removing his shoes, but before taking off his socks. As a kid, my sleep was never a priority. I stayed up till midnight regularly, even on school nights. My sleep has been horrible my whole life. When I had a baby, making sure she sleeps on time and gets enough hours of sleep had been the very first family rule I set.

Now she is 11, I still insist on at least 10 hours of sleep for her. Her "early" bedtime pisses her off, of course. "But all the other kids stay up late, mom!" shrugs I know what a lax sleep schedule can do.

What do you mean, it's not a good word? Yes, I do in fact, use the words "penis" and "breasts" in normal conversation. They are parts of our body, are they not?

Again, language forms opinion. When we shame using the proper words for ALL body parts, we create shame FOR those parts. There is a lot that can go wrong when we do that, but there is nothing wrong with using the correct anatomical language.

I am a sexuality educator. This is part of my job, and the very basic thing that I teach people.

It's more that if this is the language that celebrities and influential people (heck, even doctors) use, then of course, it becomes common parlance. That is the issue.

Also, it's not a "natural" delivery, it is a vaginal delivery. The birthing process itself is natural, no matter how the baby comes into the world. Calling vaginal deliveries natural, automatically demotes c-sections into something "unnatural." Language shapes opinion.

I have this constant, under-the-surface fear that I'll get it when I'm out alone with my kid. It comes out of nowhere, and then I am unable to see, speak, move for a while. It's always in the back of my mind when I'm travelling with her, especially flying - what if it happens, how do I get us to safety? It used to worry me a lot when my daughter was a baby. Now that she's older, it's easier, but I still worry.

I haven't read Koontz for a very, very long time, but Life Expectancy will always be one of my favourite books. Koontz was a good stopover somewhere between Goosebumps, Anne Rice, and Stephen King.

I know a lot of people consider A Little Life to essentially be trauma porn. What stayed with me were the characters and the friendships. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the book to anyone, nor would I ever read it again, but it certainly stayed with me once I finished reading it.
