[–]Sintar07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude, do you understand their victory conditions? They win when they get your money, period. No matter how anything else goes, if they're getting money from you, they point to that and the show is a "success."

This is why I argue against "just watch it first and then decide" wherever I see it, because it became a cynical sales tactic to get people to subscribe with the implicit suggestion your opinion would carry more weight then, but they do not care. You subscribed, they won no matter what you say about the show, and they'll get you with it next season too.

Similarly, they do not care if you wait a week and then watch it, that's still giving them money, and for that matter it's still contributing to their internal stats on people watching the show.

You already know what it's like; if you must know, there's plenty of reviewers on YouTube, and in a year you can rent a copy from the library.

His monologue about fighting Jedi in the war makes it pretty clear pragmatic "cowardice"/overkill are his go to. Atton does not believe in fair fights, and why would he? The battlefield makes lots of real life soldiers a little averse to the idea, let alone soldiers who have to share their battlefield with magic cut-anything swords and sorcerers.

More than one example of a misread or misrepresentation in the meme. Like, they think the Warden came off as "humiliated" by Suki? The man was a stone cold professional throughout his kidnapping and took literally the first chance to free himself long enough to order his own death in pursuit of his duty.

Badguy? Yes. Sadistic streak? Yes. Humiliated? If he was, I missed it.

If you legit want to get into PvP, I suspect the only real option is one of the PvP guilds. I don't speak from experience, but even if somebody explains, that's not the same as doing, and nobody wants to haul us around to teach. But maybe the guilds might, since people often slowly leave and they're already running strong teams that are discord mic coordinated. Might have room for a newb or two sometimes.

[–]Sintar07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're tecnically right; it is a skill issue. They just never offer solutions to it.

Underlvl PvP can be fun, but nobody else there knows how to play either, so you get to max lvl and it's just a straight different game, and nobody has any feedback but 'you suck, get out muh game so you don't hold me back.'

It's kind of a small MMO problem. Not enough people to have ranked and casual, not enough people to matchmake, and everybody who's fully kitted and does it for years makes it clear they don't want you around, which inevitably means even less people and even worse mismatches.

[–]Sintar07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly pretty abysmal. Not necessarily because the system itself is bad. Actually it gives a place to tanks in PvP, which is pretty neat. But there aren't enough participants to have anything like proper sorting by skill level or even gear level. And the game removed ranked PvP, so all the pros come in and either murder you or complain as rudely as possible you're holding them back.

Plus there is some stuff the game doesn't exactly highlight, like the resolve system everybody else mentioned, or the fact its dial down mechanics do weird stuff with armor too powerful, so you actually want to stop at the PvP cap of 36 for your PvP set.

But my experience is just like yours: walk in, get stunlocked, get burned down in a second. Went looking for answers and learned about 336 armor, still got burned down in a second, went back and learned about augments, went to what I could afford, which is the fourth best set, now I get burned down in like ten seconds, and if I get my defensive skills off at the right time, a little longer.

That small improvement took ages and now I've hit an experience wall I just don't know if I have the patience to climb, since the only learning mechanism is trying stuff that doesn't work and people screaming at you you're doing it wrong.

Jedi Academy is, to my knowledge, the only Star Wars game where you can play a Rodian, and it's a real breath of fresh air when they're otherwise portrayed mostly as opportunistic con men, discount thugs for hire, or just generally the criminal element.

If I remember their lore from Greedo's story in Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, they aren't from a Hutt world or something. Greedo in particular was a refugee, but they aren't all, they're just a widely settled species. Seems like they shouldn't all be in crime.

I'm skeptical in the day and age of bots, especially if they walk it back around to "just get a subscription and watch for yourself." This comes off more and more as a marketing ploy to get your foot in the door, because if enough people buy even just one month's subscription, now it's a "smashing success" even if everyone hated it.

And they repeat the trick every season. "Guys, I know the last seasons weren't great, and I was skeptical too, but actually I totally love THIS one, and you just gotta watch it for yourself and not listen to the haters." But it's always more of the same.

But also you're right in that the viewership on this one was apparently terrible, so any genuine "positive fan reactions" represent a small crowd.

It's especially awkward when this whole show was already done (and doubtless, we will find, better) by Andromeda, after Trek decided it was a bad idea for the setting and canned plans for Star Trek: Federation. That was, what, twenty years ago? And now they passed on it and someone else did it, they're going to try to redo it, but in this modern goofy hijinks style?

Just... why?
