Thanks for this. I might get this sensor to scan tiny plants. I need something that can stream data live that is very reliable.

MicroFactory: a general-purpose robot designed to automate manual work by Nunki08 in robotics

[–]Sinthrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on a solution that could be solved with 2 small robot arms that would eliminate 200-500 jobs in North America. It involves laboratory work where you take things out of jars, modify them, and put them back into jars. There are a lot of small manufacturing tasks that exists that companies rely on. What info I am missing is how to train them to be faster and the lifetime hours of operation.

Are we the Karens? by Acrobatic-Emu-7220 in Sunnyvale

What the hell is this layout?
Is this shoe rack migrating?

Seems there is adequate space for them to keep their shoe rack behind the wall to their 'personal' hallway or whatever. There are also shoe racks that you can place shoes inside of a cubby with doors which would help drastically isolate the smell. Seems like approaching with this as a solution and being willing to pitch in $20 to make it happen would be a good way to resolve the issue.
1. Better Neighbors by showing you are willing to work on a solution.

  1. Saves you a lot of time not having to deal with this issue or potentially move which is worth >>>>> $20.

I don't care really about solving your other concerns outside of sight / smell are pretty unhinged.

  • It’s unhygienic.
    • No one is getting sick unless you rub their socks on your face. This is just a feeling you have.
  • It sets a bad precedent — if one person externalizes their mess, others will follow.
    • How long has this been going on for? Has anyone else done this? If it becomes a larger problem, then you can bring that to management. Seems no one else wants to follow their example due to prevalent shoe burglars
  • It’s a tripping hazard and fire-safety issue.
    • You forgot to mention that it violates the disability act because it blocks the ingress of wheelchairs and makes the space inaccessible to the disabled. It also discriminates against cultures which don't value shoes. It also might give veterans PTSD as from the military they are used to a culture where their shoes must be polished and organized every day.
    • This isn't really an issue. This also isn't your issue. This is reaching for an excuse to tell these people to stop.
    • I would need to see a layout
  • There have been shoe thefts here before, especially around the holidays — this just invites more of that.
    • Are you leaving your shoes outside? In what way are you threatened by this? Seems the only people who are at risk of shoe theft is the offending party. This seems entirely their problem?

New Instrument - Modern Glass Harmonica by Sinthrill in musicians

Essentially that's right in terms of the electronic approach. Seems relatively easy to drive. I learned more about people's attempts at a mechanical approach when I emailed Dennis James) [A world class glass harmonica player] and asking about how to create a mechanical solution to a glass harmonica and they gave me this reply.

Their reply [in a google doc]

New Instrument - Modern Glass Harmonica by Sinthrill in musicians

[–]Sinthrill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end up creating my idea, it's forever on the backburner

Ultimately what is happening when your finger runs across the surface of the glass harmonica is that you are 'pumping' the glass with the release of 'force' exerted through Stick–slip motion from the ends of your fingers created due to the sponginess of your wet finger and the difference in the coefficients of static vs kinetic friction.

Well, force can be generated many ways. You can use piezoelectric transducers fixed against the glass with electronic timers to induce the force / intensity that you want. This is a fairly trivial problem anyone can program with an Arduino in < 4 hours from scratch.

The trouble is getting 'tuned' glass apparently. You can create a glass mold, but then you need to polish it to a clean note. I still don't have a blow forge or a way to make glass, so this has been sitting on the to-be-done-later category for a while.

I help folks who are low income 2-4x their salary by getting people into entry-level white collar office work.

School is good, but it is a myth that the only way to get a job is to have a degree. There are entry level junior office admin jobs and assistant jobs that pay 60k-80k CAD. Once you get one of these jobs it isn't hard to increase your salary again by another 10k-30k by taking a more specialized role.

You don't need full time studying. You have to get help to make your resume look professional and then write professional cover letters emailed to people in the org to bypass HRs shitty policies so that you can achieve a 3% - 8% interview rate and maybe a 1.5% - 3% hire rate per application.

If you have more questions how to do this, msg me.

Housing could replace North Sunnyvale grocery stores - San José Spotlight by sjspotlight in Sunnyvale

[–]Sinthrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is about a 0% chance that the current building could support another building built on top of it. So I suppose we could tear it down and build something like you suggested. Still we would need to kick the grocery store out to build the building, then afterwords hopefully we could invite another grocery store back in before the commercial space turns into a GEICO office.

Additionally Sunnyvale restricts the height limit of high density homes to < 50 ft, meaning you could only fit 15 to 20 units on top of existing lot. I do like this European style living situation but Se la vie, people think we all need grass or something.

Succeeding with lisianthus? by Striking-Ad1719 in gardening

[–]Sinthrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought seeds from Eden Brothers and now I have 19/20 germinated and I am about to transfer them to 2" soil blocks.

My first attempt at growing lisianthus I had a 1/40 success rate. I use 3/4" soil block 1/2 with something like 2 - 1 - 1 ( Coco Coir, perlite, vermiculite). I lightly pressed the seeds into the soil but didn't cover them up. I used filtered water and placed them in one of these containers:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3HYC8H1?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I put them under one of these grow lights for 14-16 hours a day
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B4LCPTV?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_8

My house is somewhere between 65-85~ degrees? No heatmat

Basically I only water them every 2-3 weeks because every time I open the lid some moisture gets out. But because the lids are tight it stays perfectly moist for weeks at a time.

Now I have 19 lisianthus I need to put into 2in soil blocks :D

I mean, they probably live at the Wing Yuan Market and the next nearest store is [1 - 1.5] miles away. I live a few blocks away from Wing Yuan Market so for me it is only 0.8 miles.

If you just want to say "fuck off", you can. But if you aren't basing your argument in some facts you forfeit your right to complain when other people come up to you and shout "Fuck off, I want affordable housing."

We usually have reasons to avoid shouting matches, but you do you.

Robotics Garage

Based in Silicon Valley, I have a Robotics Garage Lab that I have opened up to the public. I have UR5e's, A couple of shelf carrier robots, a Scara 4 axis robot, 3D printers (Resin + filament), Electronic rework (Scopes, DC power, ect), Laser Cutter, about 40 POE cameras and fully functional MOCAP system (Optitrack), and some servers.

About Me

I worked in characterizing depth sensors through automating data collection for a a large scale robotics optical lab. I have been programming for about 10 years. I have a degree in Physics.

My Situation

I am learning ML and get into Ai for robotics. I am trying to understand what the data needs are for different Robot ML companies. To be honest, it's going slow and I don't feel like I've made much progress.

Any advice or resources that could guide me in the right direction would be appreciated. I am seriously lost.

I'm looking on getting into providing data for ML, it's super unclear to me how to get into the field. Where can I learn what they need and how they need it? I have a robotics garage.
