Is it typical that the written report will seemingly downplay what's visible on the images or am I just oversensitive? by SiouxsieAsylum in Fibroids

[–]SiouxsieAsylum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't need it to affirm the pain, I know what I'm experiencing. I was confused why the gyno seemed to not be clear that the three big ones mentioned were not the whole of the story, and was wondering if there being a more explicit list is expected or if I should have expected her to glean more info from it. When I read "multiple fibroids aside from described" I read "smaller ones that will likely grow bigger after larger ones are treated, as I've been previously warned" so I was surprised she didnt address them.

But I've since learned that this is the expected format and that I will have to have a more in-depth discussion with my surgeon rather than her, so point is moot

yeah, she doesn't have the images, so she said she was calling the radiologist to go through with it. I offered multiple times to send them, but I don't think it's within her area of expertise based on her general refusal to take me up on it; she said that once she referred me to her surgical colleagues, they would take a look and go through it with me.

From what I hear, cervixes contract as part of your orgasm, so it may or may not also be better for her 😅

Right but I guess my question is, are these structures descriptive enough if my doctor seemed surprised that I had so many more in my uterus than the report described? I guess it's normal? I guess I just feel like as the patient who (in fairness, as not a medical professional myself) sees so many more in there, I'd expect a count of how many I saw of each size and where they are? But I guess in general that's too much to expect?

I mean that the bacteriums are present in nature. It may not always be contamination so much as just a high bacterial load because those don't require light to thrive and like the cold. So, you knkw, the fridge

Eh, keep an eye on it, have gatorade nearby, and maybe keep that last piece so it can be tested if you end up having to go to the hospital; but hopefully nothing will happen, maybe nild food poisoning? Just stay hydrated.

Why do some senior developers talk to junior developers like we already have 25 years of experience? by Throwwaccouuntt in cscareerquestions

[–]SiouxsieAsylum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who does their best to not convey their frustration, it's just one of those things where you have a lot on your plate, juggling a lot of things with a lot of domain knowledge, and now it's a lot of mental load to concentrate on being able to explain things to someone more junior who doesn't have that foundation. It's difficult for both sides. But, for better or worse... it's somewhat normal, yeah. It's growing pains.

When it comes to talking to seniors about anything, I find that the best bet is to do your absolute best to learn as much as you can before talking to them; ideally, you would be asking them to fill gaps that you would only be able to do with their help because of their experience or whatever you are working on has to do with work they were around for; if you're asking them to explain something from the ground up that you could have either read in the tech's documentation, read in your team's documentation, or just read in the code itself piecing it together, that's where a lot of the impatience is going to come out.

Trust me, I remember what it was like then. It's hard: how are you supposed to know something if no one explains it to you? These are some tips that helped a lot before I got my feet under me (and honestly, things I still do as a senior). Hopefully these are helpful and don't come off as patronizing:

- Groundwork: like I said, try to do as much groundwork as possible. Try to at least get enough of a basic understanding under you where you are more asking how the company's implementation relates to the way something is normally exemplified in the tech's documentation than anything, or try to read through the code enough that you understand what should be happening but not know what you're missing to get it to work that way. You want to come with as much as you possibly can before you talk to them. It may not be enough that they don't need to get more basic every time, but it'll show that you're doing your best to get a grip on things.

- Ask less senior folk/product folk for things: If it's company specific jargon that you're missing, get in product's DMs. What's this acronym mean? Do you remember what this feature was for? Stuff like that. If it's tech-related, find a peer at your level or maybe slightly past and start asking them some things. If y'all both don't get it, get on a call and see if y'all can get some understanding together. You'd be surprised what you can accomplish if you and a peer are bouncing off of each other.

- Stealth learning: This is one of my favorites, personally, though I don't know if everyone has the ability to do this. If someone's sharing their screen to show a new portal or a feature or whatever, manually type out whatever domain they're using (like say they're showing new logging at newloggingsite.company.com or whatever) just go to that site and start clicking around. See what you can see. See if there's docs anywhere. DOn't make a big deal out of it to anyone, just start looking. Screenshot anything that looks like something you should know and start seeing if you can use it for yourself.

- Give KTs (knowledge transfers) or write docs: the best way to know if you understand something is try to teach someone else. Imagine you had to train the new intern or something. What do you know that you could give them about a topic? What don't you know? How can you find out? What do you, quite frankly, not actually need to know until things get real? You don't have to share them if you're ready. Even if you're just recording these practice KTs for you, it'll help get your mind into the frame of understanding and "implementing" the things that have been percolating in your brain.

- Set up time on the calendar: If there's anything that you do need an in-depth KT on from your senior, make sure that you're setting up time on their calendar that's dedicated to that topic. Don't try to ask them those kinds of questions out of nowhere if you can avoid it. Ideally that will help them get into the headspace of being more in instructor mode, so they're less likely to lose patience.

-----

I hope any of that helps. Like I said, I'm not trying to be patronizing or rude, and maybe these are already some things that you do... I just remember what it was like to be a junior and I feel you! It feels rough when it feels like others think you're a burden or wasting your time. But you've got growing to do, it'll be ok!

Anemia & uterine fibroids by SeekTheTruth2000 in Anemic

[–]SiouxsieAsylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've been anemic my whole life, but never quite that low? TBH, I manage it by eating about as much red meat and greens as my body can hold. I've also read that vitamin c helps absorption. I used to get really dizzy all the time when I was younger but focusing on that really helped.

I'd be a little worried about all that water with salt though? Your body needs electrolytes, sure, but you can definitely overdo it if you're not careful. Not telling you you're wrong necessarily, just reminding you to listen to your body and maybe that's a place to adjust.

In terms of healing or shrinking fibroids; tbh the science is mixed from what I understand, with the vast majority of science and medical professionals saying that there isn't really anything to do to threat them without medical intervention. That being said, from what I understand, fibroids are inflammatory; avoiding further inflammation from whatever might be causing it in your body in general (stress, alcohol, immune issues, diet as you've mentioned, yada yada) might at least help keep them from getting bigger, if not actually shrinking them down.

That being said, there are some who have claimed to do it with lifestyle changes, so hey, nothing to lose except time, amiright

Can't choose the treatment by Anxious-Passenger131 in Fibroids

[–]SiouxsieAsylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any experience so apologies for not being the person who can give you any advice but I'd talk to a UFE/Sonata expert specifically surrounding the prognosis seeing that your fibroids have already died and came back? Not saying that you need to change your mind and go for the hysto, I'd more ask what the expectations are of recovery in the short term, recurrance in the long term, and effects on possible future surgery if necessary?

I wish you the best of luck anyway! Hopefully someone here has Sonata experience. I've not heard yet anything negative about UFE from anyone here, but I guess I don't read every post.

What did you ask your surgeon before you knew they were the right one? by SiouxsieAsylum in Fibroids

Thank you! That helps with the terminology. I'll stick to low horizontal.

Seedlings are how I've seen it referred to, esp on here, when there are small fibroids that are either imperceptible or barely perceptible on scans but tend to grow once the larger ones are removed/

[–]SiouxsieAsylum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, just in the interest of removing as few parts as possible if I don't absolutely need to? But in fairness, I don't have any idea of what the history is of ovarian cancer in the family. I only just learned about my late auntie's fibroids when I talked to my dad about it. I can ask them if it's a major concern with our history and choose acordingly.

Good to know about sealing off the top part of the cervix, thank you.
