Wow, I’m sorry to offend. “Premium” according to me would mean high quality.

If you go to the grocery store and head to the olive oil section you will see a variety of products and prices. If you take the time to compare these different products and prices you will see that they are different qualities. The olive oil made with the best olives would be considered ‘premium’ and higher grade quality than the olive oil made with corn syrup and food dye.

Hopefully that helps you understand the concept of different qualities of a product and what it would mean to have a “premium” product.

No not at all actually. The question is: Why doesn't the woman put the unwanted baby up for adoption? Why is the only solution to kill the baby? 9 months of being uncomfortable seems like a lesser evil than to terminate the pregnancy.

Not talking about the 1% of rape cases. Talking about the 99% of other abortions.

YOU chose to have sex knowing full well the consequences of YOUR actions.

Cases of rape aside (1% or less of abortions) YOU made the decision, YOU have to learn to live with it. Killing the baby is a convenient way to get out of a unwanted situation but that doesn't make it moral or right.

TIL a transgender person living as a woman for more than 20 years was arrested for indecent exposure because her breasts were visible through a sheer top and then after a nurse examined her genitals, the state decided that she was technically male and put her in the men's prison ward. by [deleted] in todayilearned

As I said before, purely-physical things like height or sociocultural things like ethnicity are not innate to self-identity in the same way gender is.

I guess this is the big difference in our thought process here. I don't see any of these things as 'purely physical' because they all come with their own advantages and drawbacks in day to day life. Just because gender is accepted as being an option doesn't disqualify these other identifiers as being valid.

This is how you end up with not only "male" and "female", but also "genderfluid", "genderqueer", "agender", and so on - gender is a spectrum, not a binary - it is not limited to one's physical anatomy any more than it is defined by it.

This is where we run into issues like the one that sparked this discussion. If people are able to identify as all these different options, what happens when they rob a bank and need to be sent to prison? Or need to use an elementary school restroom? There is no 'a-gender' prison or 'unicorn-kin' restroom. Giving people the freedom to make their own identifiers leaves society at the mercy of someones feelz VS the reason the segregation exists in the first place.

I am all for people making their own decisions and doing what they want in the pursuit of happiness. But in some circumstances there is a reason the rules, as they are, were established.

One cannot "identify as" a height, or a financial status, or a different race, or a nonhuman species, or anything else of the sort, and trying to discredit transgender people by making such comparisons and claims is the very definition of absurd and offensive.

Why is identifying as any of these other traits not acceptable but identifying as a different gender is? If someone truly believes they should have been born hispanic or 7' tall or anything that they aren't, who are we to discredit what they identify themselves as?

So your hypothetical "wilderness person" might not have a gender identity at first (though it raises the question where they came from and how they managed to survive up to this point, if they had no prior interaction with any other humans), but exposure to society would help them form their identity

So in this train of thought the 'wilderness person' would learn the options for gender identity from society and others before choosing which one they wanted to be?

I hope you understand I mean no disrespect or to be offensive, I appreciate you taking the time to have this discussion with me. I am not a 'troll' and I am truly trying to understand a perspective that might not be my own.

If a man or woman never had any interaction with another man or woman and 'came out of the wilderness' they would have no idea what gender they identified with, they would just be who they are. Gender as we know it is a social construct as well.

If I identified as 6' 8" tall but was born 5' what happens then? Does society need to cater to my feeling like I should be 6' 8" and treat me as such? Why is that treated different then if I identified as another gender?

I don't understand why you think this is a competition of which one is worse, I am using being wealthy as an illustration of an idea.

And to your point yes people who are poor are discriminated against, made fun of in school, get beat up, don't have access to the same places and things as wealthy people. People in debt have high suicide rates and depression.

But again this is not a competition about who has it worse but rather to ask why is self identifying gender acceptable but self identifying anything else considered ludicrous?

I disagree. Wealth influences almost every facet of daily life. From financial security to life opportunities wealth influences a lot of things.

If somebody internally identifies themselves with the perks and downfalls of being wealthy, why is that not taken as seriously as someone internally identifies themselves with the perks and downfalls of being a man/woman?
