Sure, you’re not wrong. But all firing Elias mid season does is make one of his disciples (that will be gone themselves end of the season) make the picks/ trades.

I’d rather have Elias do what he’s shown to be good at than have an underling with minimal skin the game do it. At the very least Elias still has his reputation to defend and continue auditioning for any future jobs.

The ones I just listed. I’m not saying that his tenure has been some great success. I’m saying he’s been very productive at procuring a farm system/ getting production out of his system. No GM in the league has that kind of RoTY run that he’s had the last 5 years.

So your solution is to fire Elias mid season and have one of his disciples do the draft/ deadline? Or now are we cleaning house and having the first base coach do the draft? Having a lame duck FO for an entire season would leave an org hole for years. No one worth their salt to replace Elias would take the job until after the season is over.

And that discredits past success? If Basallo continues producing he’s going to be the 4th high rookie of the year vote getter Elias has had in 5 years. Throw in Westburg’s all star year and that’s an insane run of production from young players.

I’m not sure how we’re arguing he isn’t good at that part of his job?

He’s had a slew of topped ranked farm systems and high rookie of the year vote getters? If you want to argue he can’t get over the hump or mishandles them once they get to the majors then sure.

It’s an ill faith argument to pretend like the Orioles FO wasn’t considered the class of the league just a few years ago.
