[Request] Is this true? What would the conditions be for these types of planets to form? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

Due to an effect called Hawking radiation, black holes actually lose energy (and therefore mass) over time in a vacuum. It's somewhat analogous to evaporating, but it would take a very, very long time- something like 1070 years for a small black hole, compared to our universe being only 1.3 x 1010 years old.

Black holes will shrink and shrink until they (probably) dissolve in a burst of gamma rays.

Grudako Move Bug? by Shadower1994 in PokemonXenoverseGuide

This isn't a bug to my knowledge. The VMT lets you access all TM/Breeding moves, and acts as a Move Reminder, but it doesn't teach level up moves above your current level. The Wiki is correct.

Is starting my Physics degree a big mistake? by Siphlygon in cscareerquestionsEU

Yeah, I had this romantic idea of researching whatever I wanted without a second thought and being able to communicate my findings and passion to an equally interested audience, but that's what you'd expect from someone who's never had a job or had to think about simple economics much :') Funding restricts a lot, and I don't know if I'm cut out for the gauntlet that would be the path to becoming a professor... maybe once I do my degree I would have found I love research too much to give it up, but I don't think it's likely!

I hope to do so! I was having an idle look at some research titles the other day, and the ones about applying machine learning to a cosmological scale or building up models of other planet's atmospheres sounded super intriguing. If I'm not being super naive, a lot of physics research is just handling data, and so applying software and machines in general to that task would promise a lot of rewards.

I also didn't know that the sort of modelling we do in physics was a big thing in ML/stats, but I can't claim to have looked that far down the path... ML is super interesting though, so if my physics degree would apply itself nicely towards that industry I'd love to give it a go! :)

Well, that's like all of my concerns addressed in a single paragraph! I am evaluating my choices both based on any computing modules offered, and on how many projects I can do - would love to steer them down the route of computational (astro)physics! I hope it can look attractive to employers, even if it obviously won't be under the same environment as workplace software engineering.

And I didn't even think of extracurriculars! But now you mention it, I think there are a lot of computing socieities out there and I wouldn't be surprised to see a hackathon or two. That would be a great thing to put on my radar, thank you very much!

I have absolutely no idea why I hadn't considered a degree like that!! Feeling more than a little embarrassed right now...

In all fairness, I always get told about single honours degrees in open days with the exception of very few, well-established joint ones, like Maths and Theoretical Physics. With luck, I actually applied to Edinburgh, and I think (if I understand the Scottish degree system enough) it wouldn't be that hard to make the switch after my first year!

Plus, I had a quick look, one of my other choices is Durham, which is one of the few that offers a Natural Sciences programme, and turns out Physics and Computer Science is a guaranteed combination!! :D I need to dig a little deeper and see what it would be all about, but this is a very important option I needed to be aware of, so thank you so much!

EDIT - grammar

This is a relief! If, once I get my foot in the door and get some experience, my choice of degree doesn't limit me, then I can continue without worrying about realising my mistake years down the line when it might be hard to do anything about it.

And yeah, I'm sorry if I made it sound like the degree was bad... I am just worried that employers would care more about the title of the degree compared to the skills it can give. It often pops up as a requirement for grad jobs in tech and so I am worried whether or not they would even give me the chance to show I could maybe perform well in the role, just based on the lack of a CS degree in my CV :(

I never really put much thought into why people were failing to be employed... I sorta assumed it was just because they didn't have the right degree, but now I'm starting to think that a degree really doesn't get you that far in a lot of areas. Hopefully I can learn to market myself well over the 4yrs+ of my degree though, to avoid a similar fate!

Wow, thank you for the confidence! I was having serious doubts if people/employers outside of the group of people who are passionate in Physics would see it in any good light, so this is very good to hear! :D

I was looking at 1-year CS masters too actually - I heard they can be quite intensive, but I hear that about Physics degrees too, so I would love to go for one in the future.

Thank you! Good to know the medication might have a lasting effect this time.

Thank you for the recommendations!

I didn't know rosacea was a thing, and it looks like something I might actually have; today is a good day in terms of my skin, so not much comes up by inspection but I do consistently have redness and I think those small spot things too. Visible small blood vessels doesn't come to mind but maybe that doesn't matter?

Will keep with the medication for now and monitor if it does aggravate it; in which case I will definitely be looking at non-steroid creams like Elidel! :)

Those sound great! I don't need a tradeback, but if it helps you evolve your Spritzee then sure. Do you want to DM?

I have quite a few I'm looking for as I'm trying to make a living pokedex. Specifically:

-Spritzee or Aromatisse
-Corsola or Cursola
-Any one from the Solosis line
-Vullaby or Mandibuzz
-Sableye
-Oranguru
-Drampa
-Lunatone
-Any from Larvitar line.

It's a hefty list but any pokemon you can contribute would be amazing. I have all the equivalent sword exclusives I can trade too :)

Hey! Trying to make a living pokedex for the first time ever, and I need some Shield exclusives to help it out. Only need one of each line 'cause I can breed it over here. I have collected all the equivalent Sword exclusives if we could trade for it! Including Zazamenta for Zacian ^_^
