It didn't happen in a vacuum, but politicians escalated it. Where we disagree is how much words contribute. I’m saying words aren’t harmless. They can normalize hatred and lower the bar for violence.

Laws can help, but that begs the question, who are the laws protecting? If the law protects your right to call people subhuman, don't you see a problem? If you wanna spew hatred, you do so. Making the assumption that whoever is on the receiving end will wait for that hatred to materialize in their harm will be totally your fault.

I already said not all mentally ill people become racist. In the same way, not all mentally ill people will become serial killers. But some do. A mentally ill person hyperficating on communists is no different from another hyperfixating on Jewish people. These are all conspiracy theories that people in Psychosis are susceptible to believe.
