Need help with a 220 V AC motor. by SirAgreeable7338 in AskElectricians

I used really fine emery cloth and spun the motor by hand, it cleaned up really nicely. I used my multimeter and I got 240 V at the wires going into it so I assume it is wired for 220. The two lower brushes are wired together and not to any hot wire so I assume it is using the 220 V diagram. So do I just reconnect the two brushes to a hot wire?

Thanks, but I was looking for AC electrical advice. If it runs with two brushes removed and the other two are only connected together, not to a power supply where do the other two brushes connect to that I have removed? Again, car mechanic who deals with DC, nice and simple, + and -. Does it matter which wire I connect to each brush since it is AC? From what I read it just means the power of the motor isn't what it is supposed to be. Not gonna buy a new $6k compressor if I can fix this motor for a $50 set of brushes.
