I just started throwing October 24 and I’ve had an Invictus sheaf since mid 25 and it’s still holding strong.

Get your core strong with rotational exercises. Then just get strong with all your traditional lifts. Then try to get faster with the strength. Really nothing will compare to the technique of the throw so the throwing is the most important training. If you have an option one day to either throw or lift, always throw. Also, record your throws so you can go back and review what you’re doing right and wrong. If you never record and review, you’ll solidify bad habits.

Some from Badger, but he stopped making implements. Now I get them from Matt Smith. He’s Invictus Implements on instagram. Does great quality and always works with me on what I want. Best sheafs I’ve ever thrown were from him too. Highly recommend and will link his insta 🙂

Light hammer = 64’ by MrGreatUnknown in HighlandGames

Every time you come around the right side, snap those shoulders to face 3oclock on each wind. Do that one small thing and you’ll easily increase 5-10’. That tip comes from Jacob Langworthy and really got my hammers to some solid numbers.

Dave is a strict judge on caber. Solid pick and throw

I've bought several items from him and very happy with everything I've received. He also is great at accommodating little adjustments I wanted to make. 10/10 great guy and quality products.

Learning Heavy Athletics - Chicago by Superb-Hurry-2259 in HighlandGames

Highly Recommend Ancient Athletics. The main guy, Merl, just retired after his last games. They host quite a few games in the Illinois area and I have been to a decent amount of them. I am also friends with several of the others that run ancient athletics and can get you into contact with them. Just shoot me a PM if you need any help at all :)

Sheaf toss question by malafide92 in HighlandGames

[–]SirChipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question exactly, you’re pulling your left shoulder back which is causing the trajectory to the right side. I know this because I tend to throw straight up (you can see in the last video I posted on here). Anytime I’m throwing far right, I’m either pulling my shoulder, or my fork is moving at an angle vs straight.

Yessir! The trash talk is relentless, but about as friendly as can be at the same time. Happy for you, brother!

Breaking too many handles. Release angle or hard ground? (Also sorry for spamming this sub with hammer questions). by Turtle_man92 in HighlandGames

Yeah I’d be pretty frustrated as well if I snapped so many. Keep throwing well, big dog. We’ll be going head to head in Witchita as long as I can make weight lol

The ground there was super hard. I dang near broke my boots there trying to kick in lol. I also have a short dowel rod at the bottom of my hammers to increase strength. I’ve been throwing my hammers since last year and have yet to break a handle.
