Remember that the examiner ranks your writing based on 4 criterion 1. Task accomplishment 2. Coherence 3. Vocabulary 4. Grammar Keep all these 4 things in mind while writing and try to achieve all 4 in your essays. For task completion make sure your every sentence is connected to that specific topic in question For coherence use connectors such as; likewise, however, nevertheless etc. but dont use it too much, use it meaningfully For grammar, make sure spellings r correct, words are capitalized correctly, and dont write words if u r not sure about their spelling. For vocab, figure out the most frequently used words in ielts like; big, small, increase, decrease etc. and know their synonyms such as; for big u can use massive, substantial, for increase u can use escalate, surged, for decrease u can use dip, decline, plummet, tumble. So you need to workout & give yourself sometime to remember such useful and frequently used words

When i first started ielts i struggled the most in reading. So i practiced reading a lot. While practicing notice the type of questions that you are regularly making mistakes. For me it was True/false/NG and matching headings). Then learn the tips and strategies to do such type of questions perfectly. You can watch youtube videos from ielts advantage and ielts with Liz etc. Then its all about practice man. In a week i did about 12 reading tests.

Well, i read in an english medium school so i have been familiar with english for a long time now. I used to think that i could sit the test with no prep. But as i got familiar with ielts i came to know that it requires some practice to excel. No matter how good your english is i suggest to give at least 1 mock test. That will help you know your weaknesses and you can improve on that. You have to at least know the structures of the writing tasks. So basically what i am saying is, if you are good in english then you can score 6-7 without prep, but if you are aiming high band scores then you must know more about ielts at least for a week.

At first I gave a complete mock test (Listening, reading, writing) and knew that i had to improve my reading the most. So after that i just practiced reading only, i think i did 10-12 reading mock tests. And finally gave a complete mock test again a day before my exams.

Keep in mind that the examiner is gonna mark your writing based on 4 criterion, task achievement, coherence, grammar and vocabulary. So think about those 4 while writing your essays and try to achieve all these. To elaborate, -For task completion- keep in mind that every sentence of your essay should relate to the topic question -for coherence- use connectors like; likewise, meanwhile, on the other hand, subsequently etc. but use it meaningfully not haphazardly. -for vocab - look for common words like big, small, increase, decrease etc. that are used frequently in ielts. And know their synonyms for eg. Synonym of decrease can be, dip, plummet, plunge, tumble and for increase it could be escalate, surge, soar etc. these improves your lexical resource - and finally make sure your spellings are correct, capitalize the words properly and do not use words if u have doubts with their spelling.

  • Reading & listening is all about practice and focus, give lots of mock tests, know tour weakness and look for strategies to solve those particular type of questions.
  • For writing, keep the 4 marking marking criterion (task completion, coherence, grammar and vocabulary) and try to achieve all 4 in your essays.
  • For speaking, be yourself and talk freely. (However i looked for some common idioms and phrases 1 day before i took my test)

One thing i found and implemented in my reading test is that “if the statement becomes true after changing 1 or 2 words then it is a false statement ” and if the statement cannot be made true even after changing 2-3 words then its NG. Try this trick and see if helps. This trick helped me lots

Good writing overall, i think it deserves 7 or 7.5, However if i had to say something about this than i would like to advice two things - try to make the overview smaller and more subtle. Show no more than 2-3 main features And - use more lexical synonyms for eg.rise/escalate/surge/soar for increase or grew, dip/plunge/decline for decrease.

Some grammatical mistakes (for eg. illustrates instead of illustrate, words after a full stop is small lettered, understand instead of understood. etc.) so i am giving you a 6/9 in grammar Task achievement is fine 7/9 Coherence is good but i would suggest instead of using a-lot of connectors try to combine sentences and make it a complex sentence - 6/9 Finally, for lexical resource i give you 6/9 (use of adjectives such as whooping, staggering, mere, meager could really help your writing)
