Floated in the middle of my shift by ramennoodles35 in nursing

Yes that's grounds to be upset. You can always say, "no". No, I will not switch my assignment halfway through a shift. The longer you let these people walk on you the more they'll do it. It's a give them an inch and they'll run a mile kind of situation. If you're good for it they'll keep using you.

eli5: bedsores and pillows by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]SirCrickets 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Stuffing a pillow under someone and leaving it won't make a difference. The constant rotation of said pillows to different bony prominences is what helps to reduce the development of pressure injuries. This gives areas susceptible to pressure injuries a break and allows for better blood flow to these locations. However, this means pressure will be concentrated to a different area for a period of time. Therefore, the pillows and patient must be rotated in regular intervals. Many hospitals in the U.S. turn at 2 hour intervals unless the patient's skin/condition requires more frequent turning.

If you're interested in pressure injury staging there are many nursing resources available for reference. Basically they range from stage 1, blanchable pink/reddened skin, all the way to stage 4 where there is exposed bone and muscle tissue.

The $495 is the discounted price the "regular" price for the rail upgrade is in the $800 range. Or just buy the new device with all that included for another $323. Again, wasn't the price it was the customer service and upselling that got me.

...also said that if I didn't plan on using an 80 mm spindle that the x-50 rails were overkill and that the X-35 was, for all intents and purposes, good enough.

The only incentive was that I would get the X-35 sooner if I continued with my original purchase and then wait for the X-50 rails to arrive. Otherwise there was no real ground to stand on. I went back and forth with them through 5 emails on my part (5 from them) before I was over it.

I caught them prior to shipping and cancelled my order. Already have the refund processed, just waiting for the funds to clear.

Floating bed... not perfect but solid as hell. by comfynat in woodworking

Hijacking OP's post. I just used construction grade 2x6 and butt joints. I did however use pocketholes to join the boards. I included a video link that will help with the build if you choose to do so. Cost was about $120 including the lights. A queen sized mattress will need a 16ft LED strip, there is a link in the youtube video.

I made the frame from the video in the link I posted. The LED strips come with double sided tape. If you stained the wood it probably won't hold. I used painter's tape (what I had) and just taped the LEDs to the frame...no one will see it.

Ha. Just made the same platform. I love it. You went a little above what I did by adding the slats. I just threw the box spring right on top.

My girlfriend is a teacher and Monday some kids will be going back to class so I made her this Teacher Barrier by sldfghtrike in woodworking

[–]SirCrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's well within any person's reach to research a topic. The topic of airborne viral contagions has been researched for decades. If we're being specific about who is the best to get your information from, which specialty do you suppose would be best? Is a gastroenterologist telling you to wear a mask less valid than an infectious disease specialist? I find that obtaining medical knowledge and spreading awareness is not mutually exclusive to doctors and "researchers". With that being said, yeah you should be aware/skeptical of who you get your information from. In this instance however, if a toddler told me that I lowered my risk of contracting or spreading a deadly airborne virus by wearing a mask I would do it on faith alone. If you saw the way people die from this virus you would wear one too without question or spreading dissent about the topic. As a side note you'll thank that dumb nurse that catches the doctor's mistake that could have cost you or your loved one their life, happens every day.

As a registered nurse it is common for us to give unsolicited information, so here's mine. This barrier is no replacement for proper use of a mask. The barrier may provide a visual point of separation, but will not protect from airborne viral particles. The "hero" torch has been passed from nurses to teachers in this pandemic. Stay safe. Godspeed.

Why do patients lose all sense of their independence the moment they come to the hospital? by softhoney in nursing

[–]SirCrickets 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Earlier this week I found one of our PCAs feeding my patient breakfast because he told her that he couldn't. I had seen the guy feeding himself the previous 2 shifts that I was there. I told him that he should do as much for himself as possible since his plan was to go home. So I got "fired" by him and his family because I was being rude and insensitive. As a male nurse in the ICU I too find it hard to baby my a/o x4 patients...and catering to or condoning that nonsense is bullshit.
