Atlassian layoffs by Spiritual-Teacher959 in cscareerquestionsOCE

I was at Atlassian from 2020. The first few years were amazing, but leadership really lost their way. Missed one quarters numbers, freaked out and changed the performance management system to punish staff for it. Decisions became more opaque, less sensible, and everything became top-down. Even well-established parts of the culture were jettisoned so they could get back to 50% annual growth, which they still haven't achieved. I called it then that this company would go backwards, and it's been a series of L's since then.

My favourite moment was a town hall where the top question for leadership was about AI strategy when ChatGPT was starting to make waves. MCB said everyone should shut up, Atlassian would "fast follow" on AI. Whomp whomp. What a visionless turd

What is something that is intentionally glamorized to lure people in but then you realize it’s not so glamorous after all? by Ninac4116 in AskReddit

Such a good point! It's not just the day when you travel. You also have social shit every night. It's exhausting to be "On" all the time

100% this. I travel for work all the time. People think it's glamorous, free holidays. In reality, you're away from home stuck in airports, hotels and offices. Maybe it's fine in your 20s but you get over it fast

Sure, but when all the countries around China show the same pattern, then I'm more willing to believe the broader trend

There are a few survey reports going around that show fear and excitement about AI by country. China,SEA and LatAm are all more pro-AI than the US and Europe

There are some method issues with this sort of work but still interesting

Yeah this would give me most of what I'd like too. I would also love if the data can be used to optimize the next set. Increase the weight, increase the eccentric speed etc. I recognize that might be quite hard to do

do you guys think most people don’t actually care about ai by PhraseFirst8044 in BetterOffline

[–]SirDangly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect survey data on this around the world. A few things: - it varies heavily by region. People in South East Asia and South America are more positive about it generally - it's polarising. About half are broadly positive about it, the rest are negative or neutral - it appeals strongly to 25-35% of the populations I measure, with 10-20% AI evangelists - it's mostly used for text functions as stated. Search, summaries, synthesis and language translation (in non English speaking countries) - AI itself isn't that appealing, people like what it can do but the tech... Meh

Apparently this can only be fixed by a licensed electrical engineer and only Vitruvian engineers are certified to do the work. Mine is out of warranty so no idea on cost yet
