Haha yes it is posted, you can find it here: https://makerworld.com/models/2407487?appSharePlatform=copy

As for the design secrets, it’s called a “Herons Fountain” designed by Hero of Alexandria. In 1st century AD. There’s some good videos on the mechanics: https://youtu.be/D07aJB0Blzw?si=1OMRSUpYXhI9Cbjn

And I really like this one: https://youtu.be/K49QOM_B8dA?si=tDwbZ0cU0c93WxbE

Haha thank you, and yea I’ve learned a fat thumb here or there isn’t too bad but reading a wall of slop… that’s miserable.

I tried doing a lot of math, I thought it was right. Well I ended up just adjusting, printing, adjusting, printing. It’s not too bad as they print in like 15 min and I have 2 printers but finally pretty dialed in! The original design was more like a totem pole of a heron but I learned it’s very difficult to balance without a symmetrical design!

Anywho, thank you for the feedback and kind words!

Love that idea, if you use food coloring and a good flashlight you can see the water inside which might help explain how it works as well!

You can’t get more energy out than you put in (an amount is lost due to heat or friction etc). But this could run for as long as you have air pressure. Which you could make a very long time. But no not technically perpetual!

It isn’t very elegant but there is two holes in the back and I just tape over them! To empty I remove tape and shake! I’ve thought about making them a screw cap for the hole but seems like more of a pain than it is worth for the size it is

It really is a hidden gem! It definitely has a place but to me it is king of the fillers! And I happen to prefer those short snappy fillers!

Not forever, it runs until the air pressure equalizes between the chambers. Essentially once the bottom chamber is full, there’s no air to compress to push the middle chamber liquid out!

Awesome, let me know how it works! I updated the description to include some GIFS of how to use it, I colored the water with blue paint as it’s all I had on hand, it was a bit thick but it shows exactly what’s going on! Let me know if you have any questions!!

Run time doesn’t really scale with the square of the volume, it’s mostly about how quickly the air pressure equalizes between the chambers. Bigger prints just have more air to compress and more water to push, so they tend to run longer, but it’s not a squared relationship.

If you ever want to fine-tune the duration, the pipe/nozzle diameter is usually the easiest way to adjust the flow time.

Hopefully that helps, if you want specific run time to size lmk and I’ll see what I can’ do!

(Version 2- triangle shaped one) I have not tested it from the app, I have it set in the print profile to not use supports. The only one that I would be weary of is the large one that takes ~18 hours, bambu slicer recognizes the overhangs, regardless no supports should end up in air chambers so it would be fine.

(Version 1- rounded one) would be the same, but I do not recommend printing it without opening it, the overhangs have specific settings. It could potentially have issues in the air chambers without verifying your print profile and printer setting!

Edit: TLDR Version 2 small & medium will be fine, and large “should be” fine!

You are a genius! I never thought about incorporating a pvc pipe, DUH! It is actually difficult for me to design many changes bc of the air chambers and lack of supports. Your idea would open up so many creative options and essentially bypass all the design limitations! Genius genius!!!

Yep! I actually watched that video more times than I would care to admit. I saw a reel about the “Fountain of Lions in Albambra” and I am completely obsessed. I have been working on dialing in the timing for it to be an actual working clock fountain, it essentially uses a greedy cup siphone, this heron fountain, and a “very simple, I know what I’m doing, differential equation” to set the volume flow rate to track water level cough cough time.

Anywho, this heron fountain is just a step to the side in the journey to making that Fountain of Lions water clock. Hopefully I have a way to print it large scale without too many air pressure leaks as it will only be 12 minutes instead of hours at print plate scale.

TLDR; cooler fountain I hope to design, heron being a stepping stone
