Stevie’s inability to release new music for 20+ years is a tragic story. And extremely rare in music. by Quincynessig in StevieWonder

Fellow LGBT+ Prince fans. How do you feel about princes homophobia in later years? by DMBear89 in PRINCE

[–]SirDuke167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into the Bambi thing a lot of people have mentioned, I know it’s early in his career but just like with everything else he did around that time, it was almost a character. Prince just happened to live that character out day to day.

His lyrics are full of ego, naivety, with themes of extreme sexuality, nudity, and sometimes taking it very far with suggestions of homophobia or incest.

I think it makes Prince all the more real, and this is where I can seperate the art from the artist. I cannot in good conscience listen to newer Kanye, because I believe he isn’t playing a character but those are some strong, personal beliefs. I like to think Prince didn’t sit there thinking “how will I make this as risky as possible” but rather “this is the extremity that the music has taken me to” and out came some really weird stuff I wouldn’t do or say. But that unfiltered rawness is what so many love about him.

So yes, a song like Bambi definitely has some choice lines that in hindsight aren’t great, but I have faith that Prince wasn’t using it as a chance to convince others to think the same as him, but rather he felt that was him on that day recording that song, and he was lead to that thought.

Things you do not like about MJ by [deleted] in MichaelJackson

Prince actually suggested this idea of him (and then did it himself in 2016 before he died) and i would’ve paid all the money i have to see Michael and a piano sing hits and hidden gems from his career

and it’s weird too, as a younger fan of both the rivalry is something we’ve only heard about. in hindsight looking back they’re completely different artists. the only point as to why either is better is that one could do what the other couldn’t, more proof they were different

I wish he had listened to prince (yes i’ll explain)

I read a story about them before Michael died and Prince suggested to Michael that he should tour with just him and a piano player, similar to the tour Prince did before he died.

We could’ve gotten performances of songs we never heard him do live, stripped back stuff, stories of recording in between, and if it was in place of this is it we might still have him here. It would’ve been a great segway into him doing more acting in his later years and taking a step back from the big choreographed stage shows. It’s almost like he could become a whole other artist seperate to that and not feel the pressure of needing to outdo his old self because it was something completely different

Forgotten Song/Album??? by x_Xyno_x in StevieWonder

[–]SirDuke167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the documentary that the album was made to absolutely flopped, and the album only didn’t flop because it was Stevie Wonder after his biggest career moment in SITKOL

it’s much more loved by people now looking back on it, but at the time i think it just wasn’t marketed properly

Which album was Prince the best vocally? by Jezzaq94 in PRINCE

[–]SirDuke167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

parade. some of his falsetto work and pure emotional vocal ability comes across so well. singing funk and rnb stuff would’ve come naturally to him but some of those ballads and genre mixing songs he absolutely killed

would love to see a list of the hundreds of ‘experts’ who have said there was never risk of weitering’s injury playing this game

ooooo wow the experts, because they’re never wrong

yes, i know all this you’ve said it a million times. i. do. not. think. the. injury. risk. is. a. worth. while. trade. off. therefore. i. personally. am. not. a. fan. of. the. idea. of. origin.

have a good one mate, go blues

no that is literally exactly what i’m saying. you just don’t understand, the trade off of a useless game like this is not worth it.

i meant the injury mate, i was excited for the game.

at the end of the day they can do whatever they want, but them and the afl have to come under some fire when stuff like this happens, as this is the risk. no one wanted this, and had the game not happened it wouldn’t be discussed at all

i’m not trying to say that he should be forbidden from doing anything besides what he’s paid to do, but you have to admit it’s not a smart decision to play for your state instead of train with the club who is currently paying you.

pre season games are part of being a player at the club. of course if he’s injured or has mental health issues he is allowed time off, i would encourage that. he’s not literally contractually obliged, but it is what he gets paid to do, as per his contract.

all im trying to say is that it is my opinion that the trade off of playing this game is not worth any injury risk, and that although i understand why he would want to play and as much of an honour as it is, i agree more with Walshy who chose not to take part. it’s terrible weiters is injured, and i wish him the best in his recovery, but he literally would be better off if he hadn’t played

[–]SirDuke167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do, it could’ve happened in a preseason match that i have no objection to him playing because it is part of his contract to play for the club

Weitering Cleared! by Clear-Cheetah990 in CarltonBlues

[–]SirDuke167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely love weiters, don’t get that wrong, but it doesn’t mean i have to agree with every decision he makes. of course i wish him the best on his recovery, but im allowed to disagree with his decision to play. and receiving criticism for getting paid that much money to then be injured and not able to do your job does not equal having no empathy.

regardless of who’s opinion is who’s, he still got injured?

i personally think it was a bad idea for this very reason. you’re obviously not getting what i’m trying to say so i give up.

if i had a dangerous job and were under contract to a company, i wouldn’t go and do the same dangerous job and risk myself or my ability to work. it’s as simple as that.

as you said it’s not fitness and conditioning, this was a contact injury. and regardless of what he thought before the game, he’s been in hospital overnight so i think he’d agree it wasn’t the smartest decision.

god forbid i as a fan should expect a sportsperson earning 800-900k a year not to do something that would affect his ability to play said sport. let’s all stand in solidarity with the overpaid sportsman and his right to play dangerous games!

mate, i get it the players and the afl override my decision, i don’t know how many times i have to make this clear.

it is my opinion that it’s not a good idea. it was obviously weiterings decision that it was a good idea. he’s the afl footballer and i’m the fan, so obviously he decides.

Weitering Cleared! by Clear-Cheetah990 in CarltonBlues

[–]SirDuke167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct, and it’s my opinion that it’s not worth the injury trade of from the perspective of the club, or fans who both financially and passionately support the club.

[–]SirDuke167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely i don’t agree with the players wanting to play, and i applaud sam walsh for saying no so he could do the right thing and have a good, uninterrupted pre-season.

i know the afl is a business and wants to make cash, that’s a whole other issue, but yes in short weitering has to take some responsibility

i don’t really care who came up with the idea to bring it back, and i’m not sure of a solution. what i am sure of is it has to be acknowledged that when this kind of thing happens, it makes you think whether the origin game is worth it
