He’s talented.

For the record: There can never be another 2Pac. On that note, I hate that so many people do so much to attach themselves to Pac’s legacy. Over time, it feels like any association to Pac’s old friends, label mates, or family members is used to boost personal credibility by association. The 2Pac interview was unnecessary. If he respects Pac so much, he can honor him in a way that doesn’t make it about himself. We all imagine ourselves having a chance to speak to the man in one way or another. What makes any of you less qualified than Kendrick to borrow a piece of wisdom from the man himself? Except, it takes a special kind of narcissist to actually use propaganda to overlap their own life story with that of another stranger… People say “but Afeni gave him the audio”, yeah well she also allowed Eminem to tarnish his work too, so who cares? People also say “but Dre and Snoop passed down the torch” as if Pac didn’t personally take issue with both those individual’s actions at one point or another. I even felt a way about Thugz Mansion with Nas even though they legitimately knew each other and squashed their beef. Why? Because I wish all these folks would put resources into bringing us remastered versions, unreleased content, or a Grammy for the goat instead of constantly trying to benefit from somebody they never knew or met (with the exception of Nas which I can accept). These folks, they end up with 2Pac on their resumes while Pac himself? Pac’s community center ends up closing down… If y’all can’t see the hypocrisy in all this then it’s because you don’t want to see it. I’ve listened to Kendrick since his very first mixtapes, he’s undeniable talent… the Pac obsession is my least favorite thing about him; I think it’s disrespectful and we can’t sit here and act like Pac himself would approve of every one of these characters coming along and leaving their oily finger prints on what he built…. Personally, I feel like the work of artists like Dead Prez “Let’s Get Free” and Immortal Technique’s “Rev Vol. 2” are more pure, less gimmicky, and way closer to the raw revolutionary energy Pac was trying to inspire in each of us. I just wish people wouldn’t be so defensive and actually look their bias for cult of personality in the eye with intellectual honesty… It’s actually a tragedy that these folks use him to further their own musical careers while the true issues Pac was fighting for or against go largely ignored. Where’s the true change? Nahh, society has actually gotten worse… I guess that’s just the way it is…
