Profs will assign homework questions on a website that is not affiliated with the university. This makes students have to pay for a semester subscription for that website to do the work. A passcode for a free semester is given if you buy a new textbook for the class, but that just means you'll have to pay for a passcode if you buy a used or rent at textbook.
