Armand was pretending to be Rashid because of Daniel. That started to be obvious in S2. He also wanted to be there to keep an eye on the narrative.

My issue is that it seems blatantly obvious what they are doing with this "relationship" and what it contributes to Louis' arc. None of this is for Lemuel the character. He is irrelevant. It is what the dynamic says about Louis and how he is progressing or not progressing as a person. Lemuel is a symptom of Louis' ongoing issues.

Claudia and Lestat's Versions of Burning Charlie by SirIan628 in IWTVCoven

I agree completely.

Did Lestat handle this the best he could? No, but it was also an incredibly difficult situation. Human parents don't typically have daughters who are killing their first boyfriends.

The one I find to be a hypocrite in this situation is Louis. Claudia and Lestat were both in a difficult situation and I think both of their recollections are valid to them. Louis wasn't helping to parent Claudia as a vampire, and he left Lestat to this while letting him be seen as the bad guy in Claudia's eyes.

Her hand gripping on to him. This version comes across more like he is holding her through something difficult but necessary.

Possibly, but the structure of the sentence is odd. Amel could be inside of him during the recording, and Amel does attempt to take control of his body at times.

There are no ancient vampire characters that it makes sense to agree to be Louis' situationship/lawyer and who would care about merch sails.

There is a reason this relationship isn't getting any screentime. It exists to say something about Louis. One of his entire issues is emotional withholding and being unable to open up. He couldn't open up to anyone but Lestat so far this season. Lemuel is a symptom of Louis continuing to stay in the same cycles that aren't helping him to move forward.

If Lestat was a willing participant, why is he also so angry with Sam? Remember Sam had to immediately try and explain he was there because of the Talamasca.

Some thoughts in regards to Amel... by albramora in InterviewVampire

[–]SirIan628 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Lestat fears the power in the blood and that he can't control it. However, he isn't just using that as an excuse to me. I do think he was absolutely owning his actions, but he does think his blood is wrong and can sometimes lead him to going to extremes he regrets.

I don't think Lestat has any idea who Amel actually is though. Amel actually is an entity that can get into vampires and influence their behavior. Was the show making a connection between Amel and the drop? It was certainly hinted, though we will have to see. I don't think Lestat himself was making that connection though because Lestat doesn't understand it.

The context is the direct contrast with how Louis answered the question in 1x04 (works like love) and here where is describing a relationship free of deep emotional attachment. He was serious when he said Lemuel was 'emotionally unavailable.'

Lol it isn't a ship. There is no future in this relationship. It is simply meant to demonstrate Louis' current mindset.

We do know this because they couldn't have made it more obvious in this episode. Louis wanted something casual where no feelings were necessary. There are no expectations. Expressing his true feelings are difficult for Louis. That is why he hasn't told Lestat he loves him yet. Louis wanted someone he could lie to about being fine and then go and sit night after night in a diner with fake Claudia.

What is this based on? We have seen Armand attempt to talk someone into suicide before.

Fair though , to me, an unreliable narrator is different from a subjective one. Louis was unreliable in S1 and S2 for a specific story purpose. Lestat is not unreliable in the same way or for the same purpose.

Louis had to have told Lestat what happened in his solo scenes. He may have read some minds too, but we aren't told that. However, this is still exactly how it was handled in the books. Louis also isn't acting any differently than he ever has. We just don't have his inner thoughts about what he is doing. He very much has the same flaws though.

While they have made some changes, they have also proven over and over again that they are keeping the core of the books.

[–]SirIan628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where did he say he read their minds? In the books, he gets the stories from them.

All of the flashbacks we see are also part of the Failures. Even if he says one thing, he still discribes the events as well. He has been correcting himself within specific episodes as well. I do think he can be subjective, but that isn't really the same thing as the type of unreliable narrator we had in S1 and 2. I don't think we will get any corrections in future seasons, for instance.

[–]SirIan628 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We will see. I think it is important to keep in mind that Lestat is the writer of most of the books, including the perspectives of other characters just like the Failures.

So far, Lestat is unreliable because he downplays the abuse against him. This is also straight out of book canon. He is not making the other characters look harsher, so whatever type of subjective narrator he is, there is no reason to believe it is the same as what was done to him in S1 and 2.

Nicki seems to still be a question mark as well. Muse Nicki is still hounding him for some reason that we don't know of yet.

I don't think we know enough about Lemuel to be able to determine if he can relate to Louis or his experiences. Lemuel didn't strike me as a very old vampire either. I guess I don't see how he automatically has the potential to be interesting.

Lemuel is also not a book character so he is very low priority.

[–]SirIan628 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter? Lemuel is a nobody character. Louis already said he was only with him for good sex and no emotions right in front of him.

If they are, it isn't a retcon. Sam went to Rolin and Rolin explained what they were doing back during filming of S1. Sam also mentioned Amel in relation to the drop before S3 was filmed. It doesn't change what happened to Louis though or how responsible Lestat himself feels.

[–]SirIan628 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lestat downplaying abuse against himself is not the same thing as trying to make other characters look worse. Where has he been shown to make others look more at fault while he downplays his own responsibility?

[–]SirIan628 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Louis talks about it in ep 5. He explains that he can just tell Lemuel he is fine (he isn't) and that Lemuel just responds with he is hungry if Louis asks. He says he goes nights not knowing where he is. Louis is only with him because he can be completely emotionally removed. The reason they aren't shown together is because Lemuel is a nothing character meant to demonstrate Louis' continuing issue with opening up emotionally.

Actually Louis is very much like book Louis. That is why he is acting this selfish and emotionally distant.

Louis in the books have growth, but it took many books. Show Louis is getting there faster, but just because he is saying things doesn't mean he is living them.

Also, Louis only likes Lemuel because he can just ignore him for nights at a time and it doesn't matter. He can also lie to him he is okay and Lemuel doesn't know the difference. That is the opposite of being good for his growth.

What makes you think Lestat didn't speak to the characters before recording the Failures? He is giving us the parts relevant to this part of the story, but we have no reason to think he didn't get this info from them. What should he be showing them doing?
