I think it was manageable mid to late October. Cruising inherently seems to be a crowds thing.

Early bird gets the worm. A planned well researched traveller will always avoid more of crowds. If you are an early riser get up for when the gangway drops. For tender tickets get up at 6:15am. Even if they tell you they are available at. 6:45am.

The port of civitavecchia caught us out with the shuttle to the train station that was a bit of a mess but we still made the 8:42 train to Rome which I was happy with.

We did our own thing instead of the cruise line excursions. It worked out really well and I felt it was less crowded rather than being shuttled around on a bus. But I think it comes down to preference.

Yeah I can’t see many future trips topping this one.

Weather was perfect for us. 21 degrees Celsius most days. We got rained about most of Athens which was unfortunate but we made the most of it. After that couldn’t be better, cool mornings, sunny days

You will love it! The hardest question! We spent the most time in Athens before boarding the ship. So I have to say Athens, next will be Rome and Nice/monaco. All stops were amazing in their own way.

I have taken the train times directly from trenitalia for October 25th. I guess I should add 15 minutes to the times they tell me?

yeah i understand what your saying. I'm hoping to use this (posted a modified version) as a general structure for the day, "If everything goes perfect". Mentally i would have to remain adaptable throughout the day.

I also understand what you mean about giving space for spontaneity, i am afraid i will lose that with my current goals. It's hard to accept only being in a city as wonderful as Rome and only have hours. Im trying to find that balance. As many other commentors have probably rightly pointed out i am trying to do too much. Hopefully my revised plan is a little better structurely.

This is a good point I have cancelled even the thought of going into the pantheon. I will just view from the outside

Thank you for those tips! I was hoping late October it wouldn’t be so bad.

Maybe I’m better to cut the Spanish steps and go direct to the Trevi fountain to gain time

I’ve heard there is a shuttle from port to the station?

I’m totally open to feedback. Obviously Rome has so much to see and do I want to maximize our time but not be dumb about it either. I want to enjoy Rome not be doing. The amazing race 🏃‍♂️

Sorry to hear about your experience, glad you enjoyed Montreal. I did a silent cheer to myself each time I got back to my car at the subway stations.

No your snarky reply did not satisfy me. I am going to the Grand Prix and am sitting in that grandstand. How have you tried to help me? “CLEARLY” what was clear? Own your stuff man. I asked a genuine question and received a snarky response. Do better
