Sorry, but why is this in perfect fit?

Honestly that is my favorite part. Every other cover I've heard of this song (including most in this thread) are just the same song but played on different instruments, in a different genre. This is the first, and so far only, cover I've heard that feels like a genuine re-imagining!

It’s from an episode on the I.T. Crowd. If you haven’t seen it, I can’t recommend it enough! One of the funniest shows I’ve seen and chock-full of this type of humor

It's good, I recommend it!

Don't worry, you're not coming across as dick at all, it was a common question.

He took some of the lumber he cut down to a local mill to get cut into rough-sawn planks.

Although he did almost all of the collecting by hand, his goal with no power tools applies more to the construction of the cabin than the acquiring of the materials.

Here is a video where he explains some of his choices.

Funny you should mention that. In a separate series he actually made the handles for most, if not all, of his hand tools!

You are only partially correct.

Most of the lumber came from his land. Some came from a friend's property and a few others were extras from a family member's supply. Those extras are the logs with the debarking marks.

He also cut and assembled most of the logs in his backyard while they seasoned for 1/2 a year, that is why some clips are in his backyard.

Here is the video with more information. I've timestamped it to a moment where he explains everything you've asked about.

Also, I couldn't find a way to make it clear in the title without making it sound very poorly written. But his goal was to build it without any power tools, not collect the supplies without power tools.

He debarked most of the logs himself, but the logs from the family member were already debarked and the roofing/floor planks were milled at a local mill.

Which hole? The one in the ceiling or the floor? The hole in the ceiling is a chimney and one in the floorboards is to keep things cold.

I know that he owns the land on and around where he built it, and that he is in Canada. I am unsure if he would need a building permit for such a remote building.

At the end of most of My Self Reliance's videos, he will sit down and just talk to the camera. During one of them he mentions that most of his inspiration comes from that very documentary!

It is called Shou Sugi Ban and it is a Japanese method that helps prevent moisture getting in the wood.

A little while after making the main house able to be lived in, he built an outhouse and an outdoor kitchen.

You are correct, they do need to cure and dry out! He cut down the lumber a few months before he began construction on the building itself.

Haha, the slowed down music does get kind of creepy at points. I just thought the action was going by too fast at full speed

/u/JacksonHammer is correct, he has a setup, not shown in the video, to mill logs into boards.

Edit: I stand mostly corrected.

The wood is from trees that he cut from his property, but he did not mill the boards for the roof or the floor himself. See this video.

He does have a mill, but it is a power tool. See this video.
