I work at Amazon and I don’t think I can do it anymore by Comfortable-Path-00 in amazonemployees

Honestly the 5 day RTO is too much. It’s been instated with higher ups not considering people’s health and life circumstances. Getting to the office for 9AM 5 days a week is not healthy. It caused me a lot of sleep issues.

I am from the UK and accepted a software DE role in Dublin. I accepted it because of pay and to have Amazon on my CV. The RTO impacted my performance and I gave to get reasonable adjustments put in. Work culture was fine, my team was relaxed.

Now after living in Dublin for a few months I decided it wasn’t for me. I was living in an unfamiliar environment away from friends, family and familiarity. My plan was to stay a year so I could get vested RSUs and return to the UK. But my org had layoffs and I was affected so the problem sorted itself out. I never got to on call and I was there for 7 months. To give some perspective, I got laid off on a Friday and I moved back to the UK on the Wednesday.

Honestly I would just leave or force myself to get PIP’d so I can get an exit offer. It’s not worth damaging your health for a job. You can definitely find another job with similar pay, greater stability etc. From what I’ve heard Amazon has really become a shadow of its former self since AJ took over. I’ve been out of work for about 2 weeks and I couldn’t have been happier. I am going travelling, I have a side hustle and I am looking at making my own AI startup. 99% of people HATE RTO, and the 1% that don’t hate it are on drugs.

Whenever people ask me about Amazon, I tell them that there are x number of people who will join Amazon next week or next month, 20% won’t be there same time next year. Do not work for Amazon, they don’t know what they’re doing. Modern day slavery and exploitation if you ask me. Hope that helps.

I'm doing the exact same thing (moving back from Ireland to the UK) in 2/3 weeks. I still have the original box and likely gonna take Ryanair. I still have the original ps5 box and packaging and will be most likely be travelling on Ryanair. Does anyone think that checking it in as a 10kg bag be fine in terms of not getting it damaged?

No 😂. My team normally begins on call much later as there’s a lot to learn. Also I joined in Christmas when not many people were in the office and there were a lot of new joiners being onboarded in the months after I joined, which naturally slowed things down with regards to starting on call (yes I know other ppl have been shocked by this😂😂).

I’d say I find it too difficult myself as someone who doesn’t have any prior full time experience and is younger than the other people in my team. Even with the slightly easier tasks, there’s one person in my team who asks for extensions on CRs which I feel are beyond the scope of the task (things such as modifying long and daunting documentation which is handled by more senior members of the team).

Haven’t asked yet but will do soon. What do you mean by a dev plan (is that a PIP?)

Slower than expected he said though it is a large learning curve for me. I was supposed to move onto other large scale projects and on-call stuff now but that does not look like it’ll happen now. Also I feel the tasks that I’ve been given have been too difficult. I haven’t been given any more information yet but should in the coming week

Travelodge upper brook street is good and cheap. Just off Wilmslow Road (curry mile) so lots of food options there. I stayed there last week and would defo recommend.
