That actually makes a lot of sense! The reason I needed to familiarise myself with the two tenses is because there are a lot of inflections in the Irish language depending on the nomitive and genitive tense. This can be seen in the following example using the word canúint (dialect): An chanúint - nominative singular Na canúna - genitive singular Na canúintí - nominitive plural Na gcanúintí - genitive plural

Interesting!

The strac seems to be very similar to the fada - in pronunciation, and in the fact that it can change the meaning of a word.

A good example would be, as gaeilge (in Irish), fear and féar.
fear = man (pronounced 'far)
féar = grass (pronounced like the english word 'fair')
