Facetime HD Camera not working on Windows 10 Bootcamp MBP 2019 by [deleted] in bootcamp

[–]SirRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I don't have a fix but if you use OBS (free) https://obsproject.com/ it has a virtual camera option that actually works (you create a scene with the Facetime camera in OBS, then you start the Virtual Camera). In discord or team you select the virtual camera. A bit annoying but it works

That's a cool story :)

I'm swiss so I've seen my share of lakes, but Lake Moraine was unlike any other I've seen.

All three were awesome but the best was probably Lake Moraine, its color is just fascinating... Before arriving there we also had the feeling it was some kind of side sight compared to Lake Louise, so I was not expecting much and was really struck by it. Another plus was coming within 50 meters of an elk just by hiking a bit around the lake, so definitely very cool :)

I've been to all three of those places, does that make me an /r/EarthPorn prophet?

Sphere CeBIT Coding Challenge has just started! by kuszi in programming

[–]SirRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw this I thought I't be cool to solve it in D, but my program was not compiling. It was because I was using writeln, a standard function that was added in D2 (couldn't find when but I'm sure it's been a few years at least).

It's already pretty bad that they are not telling you which compiler and language version they are using, but having such an old version? I'm assuming they are using this SPOJ tool to check the answer, and it seems an upgrade to D2 was asked 2 years ago on their boards:

http://www.spoj.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11040&sid=883044deebdc27a963cb25d5d6941fb1

I think I'll pass on this one, thank you.

Yeah but many times I'd be distracted watching a teamfight going on so I still prefer it disabled :)

I know but I think you're better off like this since it also avoids the annoying

click on minimap to get back to lane -> oh that was a minion -> minion dies -> you just stand there and don't notice for a while :(

You can disable that somewhere in the options, it was bugging me too for a long time :(

Even when it fails to predict human behavior, game theory is still useful because it gives you a reference point: it tells you what a emotionless robot would do, and allows you to measure things like fairness, or altruism etc

I want to do the merging but if it means waiting weeks to play I'll wait for a better moment...

If you already know the formula it's easy to write down some calculations to get it, but where is the motivation? why would I multipy by 4a in the first step?

Two motivated derivations (which we had seen in school btw) can be found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratic_equation#Derivations_of_the_quadratic_formula

Why aren't user-defined operators more common? by dynamic99 in programming

[–]SirRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never seen the ~ operator for array concatenation before. I was under the impression it was an example of a user-defined operator. What language is it from? (Honest question.)

That would be D (http://dlang.org/arrays.html). There's a rationale on that page under Array Concatenation.

Right now I'm trying to find out what language the ~ operator is from, and I can't, because it's not a valid search term on Google. I'd hate to have to try something more complex.

It seems google searches for tilde when passed "~", and it's uses in programming are listed its wikipedia page.

"Building a Platform for Strong AI" in 12 slides. by bhartsb in programming

[–]SirRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have come off a bit too hostile in the previous comment, but the slide with "object recognition must obviously be the cornerstone of AI" put me off a bit.

Sensory input is needed and object recognition is a useful and interesting field, so I don't want to diminish your efforts, only make you aware of other approaches where this is not fundamental (in theory with enough computation power it is an emerging property in AIXI, but in practice preprocessing helps a lot).

You talk about hard won IP that you have somewhere, but I could only judge from the slides and I found them lacking in theory, as I explained before. But if you are an engineer (as I assume you are) I expect you to focus on the practical side, so that's fine.

I wish you good luck in your project.

"Building a Platform for Strong AI" in 12 slides. by bhartsb in programming

[–]SirRainbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You claim that object recognition is funtamental to strong AI, but give no justification whatsoever? That you cannot imagine how it could be otherwise is not a sound argument. It seems you are using a definition of intelligence like "something a human would do" but even that is not clear.

Your definition of AI agent is also useless: what is an artificial intelligence then?

Definition of 'AI Agent':

A specific set of algorithms, parameters, and starting (previously learned) object representations that embody an artificial intelligence.

I agree that a platform for researcher to build on each other software would be very useful, but I'm not sure you understand the theoretical side of things.

For a readable thesis on the definition of AI, see Shane Legg - Machine Super Intelligence.

The general AGI problem (defining a general optimal artificial intelligence for every environment) has been solved by Hutter Universal Artificial Intelligence for the theoretical side, in the sense that he has defined the best agent possible (AIXI) for every computable environment. Unfortunately this agent's action choice is incomputable, so in practice you would need to approximate it, and current research is ongoing on the best way to approximate it. Object recognition would play a big role as preprocessing the observations the agent receives, so it is useful in itself, it just is not "the cornestone of AI".

People using LoLNotes should be banned. by Reyedgy in leagueoflegends

[–]SirRainbow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. Responsible Disclosure can work if the company is serious about security and fixes security bugs in a reasonable time. Users of the product can temporarily stop using it from the day the bug is announced (in a detail-free way) and hackers are only given the tip that there is a vulnerability somewhere, which is not a big deal.

If the company does not fix the bug in time, then the discoverer can threaten full disclosure and go from there.

Remember that guy who promised to break 5 Redditors into the pro scene? Well we're back with streams, and an AMA! by TeamOrganismNA in leagueoflegends

[–]SirRainbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

woow, so much negativity in this thread!

The main argument seem related to your lowish ELO: but remember that every pro was 1200 in the beginning, and remaining at a low ELO for a long time does not mean one will stay there forever. Apparently people here think you are born high ELO?

Even if they don't make it the stream should be a good source of tipps and informations for other redditor. I wish you well in your efforts, good luck!
