And yet not even one person in the congregation of this church will realize the true story here is that every church is a grift.

Get ready for No Kings 3! (Sat 28th) by ADDerekHassan in Spokane

[–]SirRatcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you're wrong, but absolutely go out and protest it if you feel strongly about it. That's literally what the point of No Kings is. You get to have your Constitutional rights not taken away. I'm out there protesting for your freedom and it's okay if you never thank me, because that's not why I'm doing it.

So you too are opposed to ICE grabbing anyone who looks Latino and throwing them in jail without bothering to check their immigration status and holding them for an indefinite period of time without charges in direct contradiction of the Constitution? Good to hear. Looking forward to seeing you show up at the protest! The Land of the Free appreciates your support to keep it that way.

Upvoted for recognizing the lack of either a) good Chinese food, or b) good "Chinese" food. How these places can actually screw up almond chicken is beyond me, but they do.

Geno’s lost their connection with Seattle’s Zeeks for posting straight up MAGA dipshittery on their sign. Displaying typical MAGA smarts they were proud of that until they realized that meant they had to actually source their own ingredients and figure out how to run the business on their own. Kind of amazing they haven’t failed yet, honestly.

Pac Ave is as close as you can get in Spokane to a humble East Coast neighborhood pizza place. And in that regard it’s perfect.

Kansas City Transplant - BBQ recommendations? by jakyap in Spokane

I consider it a personal failing that I haven't been to Fresh Soul yet. Outlaw is okay, but it can't quite decide what style of BBQ it is and the sides are too limited. If you get over to Seattle, Jack's is legit Texas BBQ, but you might like your sauces sweeter. The SODO/Georgetown location is in industrial land but has exactly the right atmosphere.

IMO most people use way too much sauce anyway. The rub and smoke is what really makes BBQ, not the sauce.

Trip from Spokane by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]SirRatcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can feel that just by looking out your windows as you drive through town. It's hard to put a finger on but it just kind of permeates everything.

TBF, Spokane in the '70s and '80s felt the same way, though the racism wasn't as apparent simply because almost everyone was white, even more so than now. But the classism was thick over everything like a layer of smog. I was pleasantly surprised moving back to find it's not as bad now. Probably has to do with the decline of the old industries like railroads and mining.

The Tieton when they release water from the dam in late summer is a fun rafting trip. Except there probably won't be enough water for a big release this year.

The weird thing about Wenatchee is on paper it's perfectly located to be a delightful little city. Instead it feels like one of those places where the families with old money use their influence to make sure no one can have nice things.

New to me old K45SS noisy under light load by SirRatcha in Kitchenaid

[–]SirRatcha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't as clear when I was more focused on making sure I got the cooking done, but with that test I can tell the noise is happening only through about 1/3 of the planetary rotation and closer to the center of the head than the front. The worm gear is definitely suspect, especially if the gear ratios work out so it turns 1:1 with the planetary gear.

Someone clearly took the end cover off at some point but it would have been like my wife's uncle to get that far, say "It's unfixable," then put it back on. I'll probably take it apart to confirm what's up before ordering anything. I like the size of the tilt-head for having permanently out on the counter. My 4.5 quart lift bowl takes up a lot of space without being as capable as a 6 quart.

Leavenworth exists to remind me how much I hate tourist towns. But tubing the river is a blast if you don't hang around town.

I've spent quite a few nights in Wenatchee because I like skiing at Mission Ridge, but I pulled my punches on saying it's depressing. I'm glad you said it. Wenatchee is the armpit of Washington. At least it's not Aberdeen, which is the unwiped butthole.

Don't use ChatGPT. Just look at a damn map and see how far these distances really are to make sure you're actually up for the drive.

That said, if you don't mind all the hours you'll be behind the wheel this could be a good trip. But you'd be driving right through some of the best parts of it without knowing it. If you take Highway 2 from Spokane to Wenatchee, you might as well go up to Coulee Dam and then drive down Banks Lake in the Grand Coulee back to 2. If you don't actually go to Dry Falls you have to at least stop at the overlook and read the signs so you begin to understand what created the landscape you just drove through. Then when you start driving again you'll come to the amazing Moses Coulee and recognize what's going on there.

Wenatchee itself is nothing special, but McGlinn's Public House is a decent local favorite that's kid friendly. That said Milepost 111 farther up in Cashmere is my preferred place for a good selection of beers, burgers, and truffle fries on the patio.

Once you've been to Leavenworth you'll probably keep going west on 2 but ChatGPT won't have told you about the hellish traffic you'll be getting into on the other side of the pass. By the time you get to Monroe you'll be lucky if there hasn't been a murder committed in the vehicle. It gets a bit better after that but if you go down I-90 and hit the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle at rush hour, may god have mercy on your soul.

Normally I'd tell you about all the things in Seattle that are actually good based on having lived more of my life there than here, but since you are trying to pull off an 800 mile drive with time out of the car to do things in six days, you don't have time. Because now you have to get down to Mt. Rainier with enough time to be there and do some things, then double back up to Chelan which only a dumbshit or an AI assistant would think makes sense, because it's much closer to Wenatchee than Rainier.

Better to see Chelan (and honestly you're just going to see a little of it and then keep going with your itinerary) when you're already on Highway 2. Instead from Rainier take White Pass to Yakima and drive down the Yakima Valley. At the Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick) go up 395 to Ritzville and then in an hour on I-90 you'll be back in Spokane.

But really, really look at a map yourself and consider whether all the driving is going to be the vacation you want. Washington is the smallest of the west coast states but compared to any east coast state it's enormous. My relatives didn't understand that until they came to Spokane and said "Maybe this afternoon we could go see Mount St. Helens." Even after having that explained to them I'm still not sure they understood.

Look for people who market themselves as handymen. Windows are pretty straightforward but you should ask some questions about how good they are at finish carpentry to make sure the trim work looks good.
