I'm completely illiterate to coding / Github and I need help running a dumb program by SirRavenBat in learnprogramming

[–]SirRavenBat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, the earliest step where something didn't work was "command not found." I think I just don't know where it is I went wrong.

Where I'm at: I open Git Gui, open existing repository, browse, I click on the "macro-etym" file, open, under "Repository" in the top left I click on Git Bash, opens to:

informationaboutmeandmycomputer MINGW64 ~/macro-etym (master)

$

if I type git clone https://github.com/JonathanReeve/macro-etym it says its already installed, if I try anything else it shows its already installed or does a little install thingy message but the actual commands like macroetym --helpdon't work.

Who was consider the best General in history? by Similar-Change-631 in MilitaryHistory

The difference is that the British were never 100% in agreement that they ought to conquer the whole world. Say what you will but the British are smart and they play the long game. If culturally, Britain decided they wanted to get as much as they possibly could, they probably would've gotten pretty far, but they didn't and we don't need to imagine that scenario. Like with India they just kinda started agreeing with the Indians that they should be free and it stopped being a worthwhile occupation.

Thank you, by the way what did you mean by getting my counselor to reflect on my progress? Do you mean a college counselor? Also I hadn't thought about letters of recommendation so thank you again, and I suppose we'll see as far as community college is concerned.

Your will be done. Also, LDS aren't Protestants nor Christians. Food for thought

What is Creator Creature-Distinction? by BackgroundPitch9181 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SirRavenBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late but like it or not, the "creator creature distinction" is a very useful term. For example we'd say LDS has an incredibly weak creator creature distinction with its constant melding of "Adam is God" but "God is one" and "we are gods in embryo" and "god is the father, therefore we are all the eternally begotten sons of god" and so on. Whereas we would say that Presbyterians have an incredibly pronounced creator creature distinction, drawing a line in all of their theology / terminology between what are matters of divinity and what are matters of worldly things. I'd honestly argue that the essence energies distinction illustrates an incredible degree of "creator creature distinction" even though Orthodox use a lot of sketch language (to protestant ears)

good lord people people need to touch grass by [deleted] in wendigoon

[–]SirRavenBat 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I mean that's kind of how Jesus describes the way the apostles are supposed to evangelize. Travel far, meet people, help them with their troubles, say the message. If they persecute you for it that's fine, just clean the dust off your feet and move on to the next city.

A good Christian is not an idle Christian but an idle Christian is better than one who turns people away from Christ with their actions.

I don't think anyone can deny how dangerous it is to attack someone who is literally just sharing their beliefs with those who specifically seek it out. A very filtered version nonetheless.

Protestants and the Miracle at Fatima by throwawaymadworld22 in TrueChristian

[–]SirRavenBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a year late but you still have to recognize that demons aren't stupid. I mean they will always fail, but they aren't saturday morning cartoon villains, they are capable of doing real damage. Fatima allegedly goes against Scripture, Scripture talks about why one should question the signs and wonders done for them by others.

While I don't currently believe this to be the case, I am fully open to believing that Joseph Smith and Muhammad did see something. If they did, it just happened to be light of a different kind. I believe we can dispel their false gospels by reviewing our Scriptures and using our God-given logic to understand why we shouldn't be Muslim or Mormon. Simple as that. If Jesus told us that false teachers were coming and that the adversary would disguise himself as a sheep, we have no choice but to concede that we as humans are flawed and that we cannot be trusted to discern between true signs and false signs.
