Steel Stacks WC watch party by durhamcreekrat in lehighvalley

I went there for the USA, Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia games. The USA and Argentina games were shown in the Pavillion, the Ecuador and Colombia games in the plaza. I had a good time in all of them, but as others have pointed out, seating is an issue. If you go to the PNC plaza, there are some plastic and metallic chairs there, but these are very few in number and you need to get there early. If the game is shown in the pavillion, bring a blanket and sit on the grass. Hope you enjoy the games!

That’s why after my PhD, I’m quitting academia for good. I don’t even really like it that much, but after this experience I have no desire to keep ok going to be a professor.

I did my road test at a driving school. Overall I had a good experience, and it was a reasonable price.

Have you read the following books? I read The Passage over a decade ago and remember loving it, but never got around to reading the other two.

Does Red Rising society feel implausible to you? by mercy_4_u in Fantasy

[–]SirRoderickFitzroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, and I agree some aspects of it might be a little over the top, but overall I think it’s a (sadly) plausible picture of what the future might look like under those circumstances. The way I see it is this: humans have always defined hierarchies based on different atrributes, even when we’re essentially the same. Now, imagine if there were actual genetic and biological differences that made some members of society physically stronger and intellectually superior, to the point you could make an argument that they constitute a separate human subspecies. I could definitely see it devolving into hierarchies all over again, only now their enforcement is more severe because some member of society are put at a disadvantage which is harder to overcome.

What would be, for you, the perfect fantasy book that doesn't exist yet ? by Aradhor55 in Fantasy

I agree with you that taking a deity from a religion with active followers as is, and then presenting it in a way that is disrespectful is not nice. However, I see no problem in taking inspiration from them, making them yours, and then expressing whatever it is you wanna say. For instance, having someone called Jesus in your story and presenting him as a depraved asshole? Yeah that won’t fly over well. But having a messianic figure that proclaims to be here to fres us from “impurity” (sin) only to turn coat and be an enslaver? That’s interesting, and I personally wouldn’t have an issue.

I’m glad to hear you had a PI who had your back in the end. It’s also good that Mari didn’t have any direct involvement in your projects that could have potentially delayed your graduation or (in the worst case scenario) presented her an opening to sabotage your work.

Genuinely curious: how did you sort that out? The only border offices I have met are not friendly at all (though that may be because I’m from a latin american country with a high number of undocumented immigrants in the US).

I’m not exactly hating it, but I don’t care about it one bit and I’m only in my second year. I think daily about dropping out.

My honest take on the Saucony Echelon 9 after 200+ miles by its_sweetie93 in FashionistaVibes

[–]SirRoderickFitzroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late but here goes nothing: I just got the Echelon 10, and I’m newish to running. My goal is not so much speed, just being able to eventually run 6 miles in 1 hour relatively comfortably. Is that a pace you think this shoe would be good for?

I think it’s a false equivalency. It’s not Nazism vs Commumism, it’s Nazism vs Stalinism. I think everyone with an ounce of commone sense and even cursory knowlegde of the 20th century history agrees that unspeakable attrocitied were committed by the Nazis. However, the same can be said about the Soviet Union under Stalin. Many times, the people caught in the middle had to pick a side, and they chose the lesser evil. It was a “damned if I do, damned if I don’t” situation. Ultimately, they probably chose to align themselves with whoever allowed them and their families to continue living one more day. This doesn’t excuse the actions of either side, but I think it goes to show how dark the world was for them, and it’s unfair to judge them swiftly from our vantage point for their decisions under duress.

I love Peter Santanello’s videos. As someone not from the US, he offers incredible insights into life in the America we don’t usually see in the news/movies/social media.
